I'm still asking: why would you want to do something like that? Steve Jobs thought you never would want to....

Re: Transfer iPad to PC
Am not an Apple user so apologies upfront if this is a clueless answer but......
Can you not use a friend's Apple PC to dump the iPad stuff down, then copy that to a portable drive, then copy that to your PC?
(or even go to an internet cafe or shop that has Apple stuff)

Re: Transfer iPad to PC
Why not?
I dump my wife's iPhone pictures to my PC where I have accounts for both her iTunes and my iTunes, isn't that about the same thing?

I did. They are backed up on the iPads.expat yorkshire wrote:so you didnt back up the mp4 files ... why not ?
They aren't my iPads. I'd prefer to leave them as stock as possible for the wife and kids.I mean why not go for my solution .. you are a geek after all .... its free and takes 5 mins
The issue here is Apple's seemingly ridiculous dictating of what a user can or can't do with his or her own files.

Photos aren't locked down on the iToys. You can drag and drop them easily. You used to be able to do that with video, but now Apple has decided no one wants to do that.Sardonicus wrote:Why not?

Re: Transfer iPad to PC
A logical one. Most people would think 3 copies of a file is enough to feel safe.

As the files are still on the ipad and you have the original disks anyway , why are you so keen to copy them off the ipad ?

Re: Transfer iPad to PC
2 iPads. Each has the same set of video files. The third copy was my PC's iTunesexpat yorkshire wrote:And the other 2 copies also " backed up to Ipad ?
Because kids being kids change what they want to watch so I'd like to be able to remove the videos off the iPads but have a copy so in 6 months time when they want them again, I can resync.expat yorkshire wrote:As the files are still on the ipad and you have the original disks anyway , why are you so keen to copy them off the ipad ?
Now I'll have to recode them all again. Major pain in the arse simply because Apple decided users don't want to copy from an iToy to a computer.

But surely in six months time your kids will not want to be watching the same movie and will be into the latest thing ... .
I still don't get your logic of recoding when a 5 minute solution is available ... but if that's what you want to do go ahead

Re: Transfer iPad to PC
Surely not. For example, We're back onto Curious George this month. This is that rascally monkeys second visit to the iToys. Madagascar 3 means all Madagascars getting airtime again.expat yorkshire wrote:But surely in six months time your kids will not want to be watching the same movie and will be into the latest thing ... .
I could go through the hassle of jail breaking them or go throu the hassle of re-encoding the files. The point here is that it's a hassle inflicted upon me and anyone else trying to do the same by Apple for no sense, reason or logic. If I copy something up, surely I should be able to copy it back down. I can do that with any other OS/device in the marketplace.I still don't get your logic of recoding when a 5 minute solution is available ... but if that's what you want to do go ahead

Re: Transfer iPad to PC
I don't see a 5 minute Jailbreak as a hassle really ... its a workaround to deal with the known restrictions of Apple environment

Re: Transfer iPad to PC
EPY tell me how to activate an iphone 4s without the original sim? I spent a full day trying to jailbreak a friends iphone 4s and hit a brick wall when i reset the device and now can't activate it because they dont know where the original sim card is. All of the jailbreaks i tried require the phone to be activated first. Why do people buy this junk?
I love my androind phone. So simple to use and none of this jailbreak hacking crap to be done!!

Re: Transfer iPad to PC
As for the Jailbreak .
My only thought is that it is locked to a particular US? provider therefore any sim from that provider would work .

I'd admit Android pads aren't up to the standard that the iPad is yet, but the phones rock.

From browsing the app store, apparently you can unstuff and unzip files, but not the other way around. disturbing.
