USB2 to USB3

Post by Sardonicus » 7th Jul, '12, 19:21

Is slow. Or I'm doing it wrong.

Hooked up a WD MyBook Essential 1tb drive I bought a while back and am now TeraCopy-ing 26gb from a USB2 drive to it. TeraCopy estimates 9.5 hours.

The copy from my NAS (wireless) to the current disc took about an hour.

Shouldn't it be at least as fast as USB2-USB2?

Both connected via PC USB ? Can you connect them directly ? Often these boxes have copy buttons that will copy anything on the USB port

Yes to the first, and I don't think so for the second. There is only 1 USB3 connector on the new WD, and only 1 USB2 connector on the old Maxtor drive. I suppose I could use my hub to connect them logically, but not sure how that would work.

Come to think of it, what I said above is not 100% true - just realised currently they're both going through the hub, I will try connecting both direct to the PC.

Would that matter?

Maybe. Teracopy is cool because you can terminate and pick up where you left off. Give it a shot.

That did it. Now showing 30 min completion time.

Cool. Nice simple logical solution. Consider yourself lucky you weren't using Apple equipment.
