Tennis - US Open

Post by Kooky » 12th Sep, '11, 14:47

OK I don't normally venture into the Sports Hall but I've been waiting to see if anybody posted on this, and you haven't, and I think it deserves a mention.

"Australia's Sam Stosur won her first Grand Slam title with a stunning victory over favourite Serena Williams in a controversial US Open final."

And from everything I've read, Serena Williams' behaviour was not nice, and risks overshadowing Sam's achievements.

Not in Australia, it won't. Well done Sam! :)

Rugby is on, that's why we didn't post!

(But well done sam, always good to win a Grand Slam title.)

I watched the replay - Sam just blew Serena away in the first set, bit of a hiccup after Williams' appalling outburst but she stayed on track and finished it off well.

YAY Sammy!!

Nadal and Djokovic should be a good one too, not sure about a 4am kick off here though!

Cairns Post has headline: Australia's Sam Stosur overcomes demons to win US Open

Then the article just reports the victory.

I sent a comment suggesting it was a bit harsh referring to S. Williams et al. as "demons", being the only inference one can make without further elaboration.

The comment hasn't been published, but the headline is still there, and the article still doesn't explain what they mean by demons.

Burbage, you should know better. It wouldn't be an Aussie Battler story without some demons or suchlike.

So we just assume them? Do all Aussies have demons? I think I should be told.

Here's the outburst vid. Geez, steroids got ya a little cranky there, Serena?

A woman walked into a pub and asked the barman for a double entendre. So he gave it to her.

Wow, crazy stuff Serena said - particularly during the commercial break!

The account I read of the match said Serena was basically getting her clock cleaned from the get-go. Regardless of the outburst (which certainly didn't help Serena) Stosur was set to win. Good for her!!
