Hayfever
Anybody know any good natural remedies for hayfever? Haven't had it this bad for many years; obviously whatever grows in Singapore didn't affect me much but I've spent the last few days snuffling and sneezing and sitting under a tree yesterday almost finished me off (although not enough to make me leave my beer ).
I'll step up the Vitamin C (already take 1000mg a day). Maybe add some echinacea. What about the "spoon of local honey" theory?

Re: Hayfever
Manuka honey from NZ is supposed to be a great natural remedy for all kinds of things. Mr. S is currently on a manuka honey kick (at $50-$80 a small container ) Apparently you need to get the stuff that is at least 'active +15' or more (says it on the label) and of course the higher the 'active number' the more $$$ it costs.....
Edit: Oh, and we were also told not to put it in boiling hot water or tea, but warm is OK.

Re: Hayfever
Kooky, the only natural remedy that's ever worked for me is moving to Asia.
But lucky for you I was just reading about natural remedies on another forum the other day ...
Apparently there is a Blackmores solution out there (of course!) containing horseradish, vitamin C and garlic. Also a gel that you stick up your nose, it comes in a green and white tube. I have some here called "Hayfever gel" and it's made by Botanica New Zealand but I'm sure something similar would be available in Aus.
I haven't ever been to a homeopath for my hayfever but apparently they do work for some people, so could be another option..

Re: Hayfever
Bit drastic perhaps, Bob. I know "natural" can be interpreted many ways; what I don't want is some pills that make me drowsy. I'm lazy enough as it is.
Manuka is one of the latest/recent wonder products, slinks. Would it work if I drank the Manuka vodka, do you think?
The idea behind the local honey is that it contains local pollen and helps you build up immunity to it; not sure it would work but maybe worth a try.
sj, it seems that Botanica product is basically an anti-oxidant. I'll have a look in the local pharmacies, thanks.

Re: Hayfever
there are polenty of "natural" things which make you drowsy.
Why not claritine? Supposedly non-drowsy, not sure if you've tried it.

Re: Hayfever
I remember when....you could buy Manuka honey any old where, cos it's just what Kiwi bees did anyway - now it's sold as a special product from stalls in Singapore for 60 bucks a jar. Now, THAT"S clever marketing

Yes, the price of Goji berry juice always makes me and to think of people falling for it, considering the price of berries in the asian supermarkets.

Re: Hayfever
thought I was suffering from hayfever after moving here from Dubai (where ofcourse it was never a problem)
but turns out it was my wife's pillow. Turned out to be a feather pillow even though we picked it up from a pile of synthetic pillows at ikea

Re: Hayfever
I've been taking Clarityne (one a day pill) for over 25 years, sometimes for quite prolonged periods. It's never made me drowsy and doesn't have any side effects. You need to take it regularly in the hay fever season as it's a preventative medicine, not a quick fix.

Re: Hayfever
I know a few hayfever sufferers who swear by garlic + horseradish + vitamin c (all in one) tablets. One per day. Apparently it takes a while to build up whatever builds up in your system, then no more hayfever.

Re: Hayfever
honey has to be local and have the local pollen in it else it doesn't work. Also needs to be taken before the hayfever season starts. but it does work.
