Tips for preventing eye fatigue?

My new office is dark, so I'm thinking to dim my LCD monitor and place a light behind it for ambient backlighting. Does anyone else have any tips to prevent eye fatigue? My eyes are starting to feel strained. Ouch!

get an anti glare screen. Dimming the computer lighting is not enough. Do eye exercises as well.

I also find that looking down at the screen is a million times better than looking at the screen at eye level as recommended. So I have my laptop screen opened to about 45 degrees from the back.

Perhaps the problem is your LCD. A decent LCD shouldn't make your eyes sore. I stare at LCDs more than 8 hours a day and never get sore eyes. Is it a gloss or matt finish? I'm guessing gloss.

It's a matte finish, Jedi, but it looks rather dusty - maybe the dust particles are acting like prisms shooting painful lasers into my eyes!

BTW, When I adjusted the brightness, I discovered that it had been previously set to nuclear fusion level. I experienced immediate relief after toning that down.

My monitor is LG - Life's Good, but not so for the eyes!

Jedi gets sore eyes when he's not looking at monitors.

Is that a slight for sore eyes?

Go walk-about at least once an hour in order to get the eyes focusing on long-range things rather than just short-range things. Preferably every 20 mins, but yes, once an hour at the minimum. This will help reduce strain on the eyes.

To relax them quickly, rub your hands together and then place over eyes so they are blacked out. The eyes like the warmth and teh darkness. Blink slowly a few time. Stay like this for 10-20 seconds. The eyes will have nothing to focus on therefore go to a relaxed state.

It was me, Sati. I dimmed the screen and placed a lamp to the side of the monitor - I have a bright window on one side of the room so thought to brighten the other side of the room, to balance the light source. That helped the most, actually.

But thanks everybody for the suggestions. I do try to rest my eyes and focus on objects farther away. Especially when I'm procrastinating...
