Where to stay in Bali?

Where to stay in Bali?
I'm sure we've done this before but it's gone with the old board......
To all the frequent Bali travellers -- I'm looking for suggestions on where to stay. If we go, it will be with the small slinkies, so places that are good for families would be needed. We won't need to be in the middle of the clubs & night life - rather be in a quieter area. We pretty much only require a nice beach & places to eat

Re: Where to stay in Bali?
If you want quieter and with beach & kids facilities, maybe Nusa Dua is best - only disadvantage is that there is not a huge amount of food choices in the area. There is a range of hotels there - mostly in the 4-5* range, and mostly international brands. I have pretty biased preferences that I shouldn't be plugging here so I won't .. Pricing varies greatly on the time of your trip, but maybe others have recommendations for more local hotels if that is what you wish for?

Re: Where to stay in Bali?
If you need to be near a beach Nusa Dua or Jimbarang (sp) would be my choice - and if you have Slinkettes, I guess a beach is good. We spent a couple of days of a 7 day break in Ubud with the BFG-lettes. By day 2 we needed to get back to the sea to stop the incessant whining.
And that was just me....

Re: Where to stay in Bali?
Sanur, Kuta, Seminyak and Legian all have nice beaches, some more full some less full. Depends what you really want. There's a much larger range of hotels and there's plenty of places to eat.
Nusa Dua tends to be more international hotels and therefore you don't get the full Bali experience. But that is only my impression, I'm sure others (as you see from above) have different.
Could always try a villa?

Ones I used are http://www.coconuthomes.com but unsure if they do family villas. They seem to have moved form their original plan of 5-6 villas across Bali to one villa resort with some central facilities.

Not sure if it's quite what you're after (because it is pretty much right in the middle of Kuta), but we have stayed here: http://www.balidynasty.com/ and found it to be very family oriented. The kids loved the water slide, playing with all the other kids and the organised games. And while we didn't take advantage of it last time, they do have a kids activity club. We loved the swim-up pool bar and the fact that we could relax poolside (with a foot massage and a cocktail) and still keep an eye on them. There is a beach right behind it but the biggest benefit for us was the proximity to Water Bom and the restaurants on the strip. We're going back there again in a few weeks.

Re: Where to stay in Bali?
Villa Kubu is lovely and definitely in a quiet area but more than a slinklette (or a kooky) walk to a beach, and I wonder if they'd prefer a hotel where they can play with other kids.
snaff - gwan, give your recommendations, biased or otherwise I'm sure they're informed. Didn't you once recommend me The Conrad, between Nusa Dua and Tanjong Benoa? We used the spa there last time we went to Bali(lovely!) and thought it was a very attractive hotel, but more "family" than we'd want. Perfect for the slinkies, I think.

Re: Where to stay in Bali?
Me recommend the Conrad... I doubt it
The Westin is a very nice hotel, great pool area, tennis, on the beach & well known for its Westin Kids Club! Maybe either ask for a ground floor garden or pool room..
