Re: Airlines
25 or more hours? I'm not sure there is a flight that is that long!
ps. I've flown with BA, SQ, Cathay and United to either Europe or America in the last 5 years and would happily fly with any of them again.
Qantas flies to UK and other European destinations from Singapore, so don't understand why they are not included. Malaysia, Thai, Brunei, Emirates also fly someway from here (though with stop overs, like Qatar), so could possibily also be included. Out of those, only flown with Thai and Emirates: would have to see what the current Thai planes are like (and also prefer not to travel to Thailand with a load of holidaymakers) whereas Emirates were poor from here to South Africa.

Re: Airlines
She surely means total travel time -- i.e. flying to N. America - and not on the SQ 18 hour flight to Newark.
I can't reasonably vote -- we always take great measures and pains to use upgrades to fly business class when we fly 25+ hours to N. America

Re: Airlines
Errr.....so how do you get 25 hours flight no matter where you go? There's no 5 hour stop over in (where ever you may stop over on way to NY)!
Does she mean more than 2.5hours? In which case, that's not really long haul!

Re: Airlines
Our UK trip this year took us 40 hours door to door, and 9 of that was spent at Changi.
We're looking at our options for our next trip back, to have a different stopover (not that we don't love and miss y'all madly) but we're still favouring SIA; they're actually competitively priced these days.
We've been recommended Emirates and Asiana as alternatives. I would consider any of the above apart from the American ones * so I'll vote that way.
* Have been on neither of those ones but once took 5 flights on Continental and that was 5 too many.

Re: Airlines
But she said out of Singers, there's no 25 hour flight. Just checked SIA is 24 hours to New York with 2 hour stop over in London. Suppose they are using Virgin for the transatlantic part? And flying time from Aus to UK is 9 hours max to Singapore, 14 hours max to uk....still below the 25 hours stated. It's your choice or lack of avaialble flights that made it 40 hours door to door.
Must say, my preference is to fly direct and then to fly with the minimum amount of stopover. I hate stop overs that are less than 2 hours away from destination (e.g. flying to UK via KL or Bangkok would be a nightmare on the return journey in my view).

Re: Airlines
What next? From ST online:
"TOKYO - A JAPANESE airline is taking its weight-saving efforts to new heights, asking passengers on some of its flights to visit the restroom before flying.
The unusual request is one of a number of measures being tried out by All Nippon Airways to reduce fuel consumption.
ANA estimates that if half its passengers went to the bathroom before boarding, it could reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 4.2 tons a month, said company spokesman Megumi Tezuka."

Re: Airlines
Yeah, but Japanese toilets are just fantastic. Going to the bog is like being in control of the Starship Enterprise.
So I guess my question is, who wouldn't prefer to go before getting on a plane and being faced by a cramped, stinking aircraft toilet?

I'm sure flushing some water and waste ont he ground is a lot more environmentally friendly than flushing in the sky (chemicals and ejection!!)Morrolan wrote:so what about the increased water use from all that extra flushing?
