Providence, Rhode Island

There's a possibility I will be there in mid-April for work, any suggestions for restaurants/places of interest? I will have a free weekend there. Should I just stay in Boston for the weekend instead (if so, what's in Boston)?

Thanks! [smilie=kiss.gif]

Yes. definitely stay in Boston! What's in Boston? It's a contemporary Athens: Harvard, MIT, etc. The center of the biotech industry. A lot of colonial american history ( though not as much as Philly). Great bars/pubs. Great music. Oh, and a 'porum member to show you around- chocolate. I have moved on but miss it terribly...

Of course the lovely Doc Choc! She's away March, I would think back before mid-April.

Looking at Craigie on Main and suggestions from this article. Looks promising :)

Where would you suggest I stay for a weekend in Boston, then?

Yikes I just found out I will be there the weekend before the Boston Marathon. Looks like reasonably-priced hotel rooms will be scarce

Edit: Scratch that, there are NO reasonably priced hotel rooms in Boston. What's up with the $450++ rooms???? Looks like I'll stay in Providence and rent a car to go to Boston.

What earworm? How is Providence related to The Eagles? :?:

Nev, my brother says there is a lot of good food to be found in restaurants in Providence due possibly to Johnson & Wales Culinary School.

Maybe check here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants- ... sland.html

And here: http://www.yelp.com.sg/c/providence/restaurants

Edit: Attraction wise and stuff to do in general, he agrees Boston has more to offer.

I nodded off at 0:52... must be the most boring song in the world, can't possibly be an earworm! [smilie=kiss.gif]

Thanks slinky, I'll check out TripAdvisor. The last time I tried something Yelp recommended, I ended up with bad to mediocre food.

Yelp is a protection racket. I've known several business owners who have been approached by Yelp demanding $300/mo or so to remove negative reviews. (And if your business doesn't have any negative reviews, guess who can manufacture them...)

 For the record, I just did a quick search for Providence restaurants and trip advisor and yelp (which I've never heard of before today) were the first ones to come up.

Slinky,

Yeah, it's a shame. Yelp could be a great service- there are a lot of sincere "yelpers" who post helpful reviews... There really is a need for an unbiased review site.

slinky, I still appreciate your help. I was just sharing my experience with Yelp, so others don't fall into the same trap :)

No worries -- glad to know I shouldn't rely on Yelp should I run across it again in the future :)
