At last!

Post by daffodil » 18th Dec, '12, 20:32

After 13 years, the Reproductive Health Bill has finally been passed in The Philippines allowing for basic state funded contraception and sex education.

In a country where the birth, infant mortality and illegal abortion rates continue to spiral, kudos to the Aquino government for pushing ahead with this controversial bill.

And a massive finger to those who suggested that Typhoon Pablo, which has killed at least 1,000 people, was God''s wrath for daring to have the debate.

Daff, I just read that earlier and talked about it with Mr VS, and we were both shocked and happy. I never thought it would go through, but so glad it did. It's about time. The times they are a changin'...

Amazing, I never thought it would get through either. Some sense does get through.

For instances where the Mother's life is in danger, or potential to commit suicide I believe?

Whereas, abortion under any circumstances is still, and will remain, illegal in The Philippines. The RHB is a start...though the Catholic Church will do their best to lay the guilt trap, and I forsee some difficult times ahead.

Remember, Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards and in high heels.
