Cowboys & Aliens

Post by skank-la » 4th Aug, '11, 05:39

Its out -went w/the Skankster who is 11. It owned the box office last weekend

He loved it- kept asking me who is this Harrison Ford guy

Entertaining in an 11 year old kind of way- good way to kill a couple of hours w /some tweenagers in tow

I'm waiting to see Brad Pitt in Moneyball next month-unfortunately that is purely a Yank movie -even though its an interesting true stor if your're not American you probably wont be interested in the least

Not sure about Yank only. I've read Moneyball and so have many non-Yanks that I know. You just need to be a sports nut with an unhealthy interest in player drafting and trading. Lends itself to any sport really.

Must admit I was taken in with the action aspect of Cowboys and Aliens, and the Daniel Craig aspect but then I was watching thinking huh? How much can I suspend my reality on this one I wonder. Anyway, STILL have to see Super 8 first, if I can find somewhere it's still on :D

The Billy Beane/Billy James story is a great one

Billy James who is the father of sabermetrics now works for the Boston Red Sox - who used him to turn around a 50 year slump in the franchise & eventually win the wold series

Bascially his premise was that baseball was evaluating players using the wrong statistics. He started tracking a completely different set of stats in his Baseball Abstract & the rest is history

Moneyball/Brad Pitt/Trailer

Damn it Skank - I want to watch this now, it looks great

Cowboys & Aliens - good fun if you can take it for what it is.

Passed on the Imax version at the new Lido, haven't been there yet, but the showing was a bit late.
I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book. Groucho Marx
