Just saw your post - Smith's is ok but have you tried the Old Brown Shoe on Bukit Timah? The choice is crap (just Dory) but the quality is average and everything is wrapped in newspaper which is totally against all health regulations. I read a survey somewhere online - an expat site - but can't remember which one, which rated Smith's 5th best in Singapore, and Old Brown Shoe the dodgiest.

Hope this is useful for a fellow Fish and Chip lover.

Smiths is miles better than the Old Brown Shoe . The survey was done by one of those Singapore magazines and written by Singaporeans who do not really understand what good Fish and Chips should taste like

Old brown shoe does an acceptable Sunday roast so don't rule it out. However, when it comes to fish'n'chips, Smith's wins hands down! ...and now they have opened up a second fish'n'chip shop at Boat Quay! Yay!

Acceptable but my abiding memory of the place is that it was bloody freezing

Boat quay is the third Smiths. There is one at the well-known gourmet hotspot that is Balmoral Plaza

Just been to Balmoral Plaza. Good chips and pickled onions, salmon fish cakes were average (prefer non-salmon) and mushy peas could have been mushier, but still good.

Goiod for Singapore, average if you live near a good chippy in the UK.
