There are some ShoutBoxes available and possibly some web based chat apps. But I'm not sure it's a good idea as it would turn into a chat room and not a forum. No history and any useful tidbits posted in there would be lost, unless you happen to be online at the time.

only occasionally are there enough online to really chat at once anyway, and I am sure the loss of some of the banter wouldn't be too great of a loss
