Night shot wont work too well for forum logo because aspect ratio is not wide enough.
That's why i chose the other photo.

the header colour can be changed tho, it doesn't need to be graduated does it?

another aspect to consider is the implications of colourful headers to the skivers at work ;)

I like the day shot. The contrast of modern city, nature and colonial influence is starker

Won't it be difficult for the text to stand out from the daytime background?

I've placed Jedi's photo as the background bar and tried to steal his text format for the name. Not a great job on the name.

2 Questions:
a) Does everyone like the panaromic photo as the header ?
b) Those who are better at this, can you come up with a few alternatives for the name in different styles fonts etc ? The Background bar is 90px high.

I've attached the worked image so you can test your text out on.

Will post some in the morning.

Yes, GIF transparent please. PNG is better quality but IE6 browsers can't render it properly. And currently 53.4 % of our hits are with IE6

I like the idea and also the dusk time frame. What I don't like is the fact that there is nothing in the photo that can identify the city as Singapore. I would love to see something similar taken from the harbour and maybe taking in the Merlion or the Esplanade & whatever they call the giant ferriswheel. Not big, nor centered or highlighted but just recognizable.

The basic layout is on the right track though.
