Board index....
OK, been bugging me for a while, thought it was just me.
When looking at the Board index, there seems to be several things going on tryig to tell me there's new posts.
There seems to be two circles: a circle with lines in, and a circle with lines in with a smaller circle with lines in. I take the the second one with smaller circle is showing me that there are sub-forums. got this, slightly distracting but it's not something to worry about.
Second bit: when new messages are posted, the circles turns from grey to red. However, if I visit that forum, read the new messages, then go back to the Board Index, the circle is still red. I've checked, and there seems to be posts that I've not read from a few days ago. Yeah, some subjects I'm just not interested in. But it seems I have to open every thread in order to get rid of the red circle at the Board Index.
On other boards, the practice has usually been that once I go into the forum then all threads updated before that visit are now classed as read, and therefore the equivalent of the Board Index isn't telling me I've got loads of stuff still to read.
Is there a way to fix?
Oh, and at the bottom of the page can we also have the folder break down, e.g. Board Index < The Singporum < Suggestions & Complaints? Bit of a hassle getting to the bottom of a page and then either having to scroll back to the top to find the right button, or use the drop down menu or use the back button on my browser (which doesn't work if I've replied to the post). Being able to hit the on (sub-)forum directly is my preference.
Obviously, if I'm the only one suffering from these, then just ignore me. If others agree, and you've got the time, and I'm not pissing the admin off too much and he hasn't had oo much green beer, please go ahead and fix/upgrade/do your funky stuff!

Re: Board index....
Have you tried clicking "Mark Topics Read" when you're in a folder ?
Second one I don't understand. Have you tried the dropdown Jump box ? Or how about at the bottom "Return to Board Index" ?

FB: I feel asleep half way through, anyway, once you have read what you want to read and think the rest is boring click on the little link on the right hand side that says * Mark forums read then the red goes away.

Re: Board index....
no, I never have seen the "Mark Topics Read" button, on other boards this has always been done automatically. But if you want a substandard board with users putting in more actions, then I'll happily clcik that button each and every time a topic is added......
As for the second one. See image below, you have a line at the top of the board with, on this thread: "board Index < the Singaporum , Suggestions & Complaints"
Can we have it on the bottom as well? Otherwise, it's back to the substandard board with users putting in more actions......

Re: Board index....
It's possible, but then I'd like to take away some of the stuff at the footer. We already have a jump back to the forum link you are, plus a jump to the board index link. Then we have a drop down box that will take you anywhere on the site.
If you're not able to move with the times, we can add what you are asking for if people want it.
As for "Mark Forums Read", I think the way it works is the better way. You can see the ones you haven't read and once you've finished that forum you can clear the others. Using you're preffered picanto approach, if you don't manage to read all the unread in a single visit, the next time to come back they'll be cleared.

Re: Board index....
Just a pain in the arse where I have to do more work. And you know I'm against that. Don't want to use up all those calories moving my mouse and clicking that left-button. Hard work!

Re: Board index....
Oh, will this "Mark all topics read" hold for where ever I've logged in, or only on the computer where I've done it? Would hate to then have to go and do it at home and then at work the next morning and then at home again in the evening.....etc etc.

Re: Board index....
In my experience it follows the user. When you get home it should only show you the unread since you left work.

Cool. Will accept it then, but only degrudgingly!
And yeah, I'll let you play with the second one before I complain anymore.
Ta muchly for your help!

BTw, on the forum icons.
If it's scrolling, it's a hot topic. If there is a red * in the icon, it means you have previously replied to the topic.

Re: Board index....
BTW FB, I found another way for you to get to the top of the page with one click. Each post has a small up arrow in the bootm right hand corner. Click that and you'll be taken to the top of the current page.
