Bloody hell. I heard sirens about this time, didn't think much about it.

And we've even got photos http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/g ... -1,00.html

Don't think they were in when we were there, Tas. Way too straight looking.

Had to laugh at the bit where the cafe owner said that staff thought the undercover cops were bandits...

we got all the happy campers that afternoon. as I mentioned we could have dined out on that for ages. wish the cop in the red shirt had been there, bit nice.

The cafe is popular with wrinklies, lazy housewives and media luvvies; I can't imagine why they thought they were being attacked by bandits!

Although IIRC there have been some hold-ups in Balmain (similar neighbourhood over the harbour) restaurants recently.

edit: Just digging back a bit - drugs, large quantities. Quelle surprise.

Oh well, I think that trumps the blown-up 4wd in Lane Cove.

I won't bore you with all the details as I know it's nowhere near as interesting to the rest of you as it is to the Sydneysiders, but 'kinell! This story's going to run for quite some time. Nice to know one of them had a gun when he was arrested in our sleepy little suburb. :?

"WHAT started seven years ago with the investigation of the murder of a convicted drug dealer on day release has culminated in the storming of a McMahons Point cafe and revelations of one of the biggest murder investigations in the state's history.

The police investigation, Strikeforce Tuno, has uncovered a dirty underbelly of Sydney crime involving drugs, bikies, and hitmen. Police say they now have suspects for seven murders, three suspected murders, two attempted murders and an alleged conspiracy to murder at least one other person..."
