Jimmy Savile

Post by daffodil » 23rd Oct, '12, 19:58

The debacle continues with further claims of systematic sexual abuse by Savile and possibly others, well known and seemingly accepted by the BBC management at the time. The BBC news tonight raises the question of a paedophile ring /connection to Savile, could it get much worse?

Now the charities that he was connected with are pulling the plug, so more individuals suffer due to the actions of this reprehensible man.

As the "possible others" going to get prosecuted? Or will they wait until they are dead before dragging their names through the mud?

I suspect most of us don't really know what to say about this, Daff. I know I don't. I felt like I should say something before, having lived down the road from him (literally, for a couple of years) and seen him regularly jogging around Roundhay Park - or walking around making sure he was being seen and adored, but sheesh, it makes me both mad and sad.

Rumours were around for years, as I'm sure most Brits know. He creeped me out completely. In those days there weren't as many celebs around and girls' heads were turned, groupies were everywhere and not always of age. I'm sure some underage went willingly with him, with Peel, etc., (and some of those guys were very open about this) but also a lot did not. The stories coming out now, even allowing for some people jumping on the bandwagon to make a quick buck, are horrific.

Why did nobody in authority, in his workplaces, in the industry, the hospitals, etc., say anything, is what I want to know. I know he was powerful, he had some "interesting friends", and he was litigious, but it seems there was often an acceptance that this was how it was. Parents trusted him with their kids - were they blinded by the associated fame? (Michael Jackson, anyone?) He brought in money (for the Beeb and for the hospitals) so don't rock the boat? Fuck's sake.

Why is it all just coming out now he's dead? I personally don't think for a minute he was innocent but everyone should have a chance to defend themselves.

Esther Rantzen was very quick to jump on this. I hope she feels bad about keeping quiet, and many more along with her.

There, some rambling thoughts on this. I have many more.

I know I shouldn't think this, but where do you think one finds dead bodies to partake in such activities.....

All very sad though... :(

You make some good points K, and yes, they will always remain allegations now he's dead.

I cant's say I particularly liked his public persona, and to be honest, assumed he was homosexual. Go that wrong it would seem...

He came out very quickly once this all started, protesting his innocence. Too quickly, perhaps.

And if he didn't protest his innocence, what would you then say?

"Oh, look at Freddie, not protesting his innocence, he must be guilty as hell!"

Nope, I wouldn't say that.

I also wouldn't think it was a distasteful way to earn a few quid, if he hadn't very quickly lined up breakfast TV appearances.

Hasn't he been arrested twice already? He was never named in the mainstream press but I thought it was generally accepted it was he.

The name has just been announced. I've seen the list of others. Lots of stars of the 70s. And so far only one person is charged, a driver.

I don't think so, I think they are on bail awaiting further investigations, or have had no charges filed and case closed.

Only a single person has been charged. Don't know when the trial is.

So he has! Wow, wiki is not keeping up with the various goings on! The main Operation Yewtree page only mentions the driver being charged, but Stuart Hall's page does mention his charges.

Well, let's hope that those that are guilty have the full weight of the law thrown against them, whilst those that are innocent are found so and not affected by any accusations.
