Happy Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Post by Fat Bob » 8th Dec, '10, 15:47

Very much to our Roman Catholic worshipers, this is a feast in celebration of the immaculate conception.

Now, forgice me if I'm putting a too critical eye on this: a human gestation period is 9 months. Which obviously proves that Jesus was no ordinary man, conceived today and poped out only 2 and a half weeks later! Well done Mary for being such a good incubator!

But there again, I already knew Jesus Christ was a special person:

Jesus Christ, He's so cool,
He walks across my swimming pool!

Jesus Christ, He's so fine,
Turns my water into wine!

Violets are Blueish
If it wasn't for Jesus
We'd all be Jewish (well obviously not all, but more perhaps)

In the spirit of inclusion, we shouldn't forget that Sikhs celebrate Bikarami - the Martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji - today.

Wasn't on my list, otherwise I would have included it.

Japan is celebrating Bodhi Day. BoD, care to explain?

FB, the immaculate conception is the conception of Mary, not Jesus. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immaculate_Conception

How did Mary get pregnant then? Was it Joseph or another immaculate conception? ( I REALLY should know better)

Jesus wasn't conceived, according to Catholic dogma. He was sort of put there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annunciation

Of course, if you read Matthew and Luke, neither of them believed in the virgin birth. They both give genealogies for Jesus which end with his father, not his mother.

Seems like I've misunderstood for a long time. The conception of Jesus is called The Annunciation, when Gabriel told her she would be knock up with God's kid.

It's taken as exactly 9 months earlier on Mar 25th, which used to be the New Year in many places. Well, times don't change, really, I reckon they'll be a lot of people pregnant come the current New Year that weren't expecting it!

I once got a rather irreverent Christmas card which had a picture of Mary and Joseph in bed, smoking a post-coital cigarette with the caption: "Well as far as conceptions go, that was immaculate".
