Oh heck. I'll tell Neo to expect support calls.

(He got a new one delivered last week. Went back last week too, wrong one.)

I thought these things were so uncustomisable, it's impossible to get them wrong?

No idea; I just know it was ordered through a work rewards scheme and not what he asked them to get him.

I'm also surprised he noticed it was not what he ordered. Surely he would have been happy with ANYTHING from Apple.

iMac order, iPod delivered....WOW!!!

When did need come into it? Neo's on his third iPad, is getting yet another a new work laptop, and couldn't really provide a sensible answer when I asked what he's going to use the Mac for.

He has to have the latest one, of course. There are worse vices.

(He has some of those too, if the rumours are to be believed ;) )

Well I'll ask you what I always ask Neo, what will you use it for? What does it do that everything else doesn't do?

From what I can work out, the iPad doesn't do what everything else does, but it fits in that nice little Tumi bag he bought so it's handy to carry around. It's a fancy e-book reader :)

(I'm being a bit unfair - he can actually demo his product on it, and does.)

edit: there's no justification for the new Mac, but he earned the rewards so he gets to spend them.

Our house has 4 storeys. The PCs are on the top floor. It would be nice to have a pad type thingy around the first floor where it would be easy to do something quick, check something etc.

Also for taking it out with you. When you know you'll be sitting around waiting (doctors office, kids whatever lessons) then it's handy to have a pad thingy instead of using your phone.

Finally, the Samsung pad thingy should connect up nicely with my TV and BD player and turn into one giant remote control as well.

OK. Approved. Neo reads all his news feeds and forums on his, slouching in his armchair on an evening. If he was using his laptop I'd never see him. I think he skypes the folks on it as well.

We also have Apple TV but I'm not sure what that does - it just magically appeared last time I left Neo on his own.

I did come home from one trip this last year and find a bar-shaped web-cam sitting on top of the TV. That was soon removed.

i have it and it's pretty good.

honestly, i don't understand why people are so obsessed with pads being 3g: you can slave it to your 3G phone and use that network. just as fast and saves you a few hundred on the price of the pad.

This tethering thing is really cool. For the last 3months all my Internet access has been via my iPhone personal wifi hotspot using an unlimited data PAYG SIM.
