....to high heven

Post by Sardonicus » 16th Jun, '13, 23:43

I don't remember the air smelling that bad here, ever. The big rain must be full of all the haze we've been getting all week, it must be like that all over this island

Singapore Meteorological says the latest PSI reading was still in the moderate range, which kind of shocks me. Malaysia seems to be getting the brunt of it with places as high as 120 PSI (from 101-200 PSI is harmful).

I like how it goes down 10 psi (or something like that) but still remains at ridiculously high levels and that warrants a ST headline about "relief from haze, people breathing easier in Singapore", to paraphrase.

And it is always this big surprise. the "haze" is back - it's not haze - it's smoke from burning forest and peat and it is man made.
It's ridiculous as everyone knows it will happen every year and nothing is done. I feel sorry for people with asthma issues - it must be dreadful.

I'm not sure what it is now but driving home around 7:30 would have been as bad as I have seen it in quite a few years.

155 at 10 pm and now an 'easy' 122... already my throat is burning with the onset of bronchitis.

fucked up. thank you Indonesia and their complete lack of interest in environmental control or at least the basics of common decency towards their neighbours. corrupt wankers.

Blame Indonesia all you want. I think that the only problem that leaders of government and industries have with the haze is that it's drawn attention to what they do. Otherwise we can all just carry on in blissful ignorance with incremental slash and burn. No smoke, no fire.

Played outside in a national league game last night. All games went ahead which I find strange - had to play as we are top of the table and didn't want to lose by forfeiting. Plan on contacting the Singapore sports council today to see what their health and safety ruling is in regards to "haze"

Can we launch a class action lawsuit against these people?

Is it true that the numbers shown on the NEA website is the average of multiple readings over 3 hours? Which means at some point it must have reached 400+?

Item about this on the BBC made me wonder how you all are. I was amazed my log in still works. 371 level sounds dreadful. Hope you're all ok.

Edit: And there's my chafing avatar :)

Those numbers are quite scary. I am glad we are not still there, my son and I would be locked inside not able to go out I reckon. I hope none of you have breathing problems.

Brewerkz has closed their alfresco seating until things improve. Oh my, that's a big deal and means a lot of money will be lost. If other restaurants and bars have to do the same it could get real costly for Singapore business.

I dunno, Mr VS reports that everyone's out and drinking these past couple of nights. But long term effects will be felt, I'm sure.

Both pics taken from the same position. Somehow I think the PSI is slightly higher than a mere 400...
