Advice versus advise!!!!

it's not rocket science, why do so many people not know the difference?

Language abuse has been driving me nuts lately. Ie. overriding when in fact overwriting was the term they meant to use...

Don't get me wrong I occasionally slaughter proper sentence structure, and cut corners, but grrrrrr one of my pet peeves. The scary thing is Icaught myself saying more better one day... Shoot me!!,!,

I have a mental block on practise v practice. I know exactly what the difference is, but still have to double check every time.

See program or programme don't bother me as it is an american english thing, and i can live with 'z' in words the american way. Although after working inthe UK and for a Mostly UK-centric company, realise and organisations are now with an s etc, and colour has a u always.

The other thing that drives me nuts is the constant misuse of the plural here

We have been grammar/language nazis here for quite awhile now with the small slinkies and we alwyas go after things like 'more better.' Sometimes I feel like I'm correcting every other word they say

Honestly, there are just too many mis-uses and generally awful mistakes that make me crazy to name. I swear our kids are magnets for every last grammatical abomination they hear around here. You are totally right about the mis-use of the plural though - it's just rampant.

Then again I am a bit of a grammar Nazi on one forum where that is all I do.....

Practice vs Practise - is that British English?

I believe the noun and verb version are the same in American English (practice). I cannot think of the other version (practise) in American English anywhere.

saltish = salty
saloon = salon
sales = sale
keep = put away
wear = put on
revert or revert back = reply

As this is random going to jump on the wagon.

I HATE TAGGERS. I'd like to hang around commando style and shoot them off one by one. One day going to get a sticker made up to carry around that says at least learn to spell you fucking morons.

Real Estate Agents. Sort after location. Seriously, people, you use that phrase often enough that you should know how to spell it.

Interesting - I didn't know that. I'm with T2K though, I've never heard of it in American English. Practice covers trying to perfect doing something as well as what a psychologist would have - or a doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc. As far as license - I think we only use the one with the s and not with a c. It's strange though, having been here so long and having seen licence with the c it doesn't look out of place to me right now, so I'm not feeling 100% certain we don't use that spelling in the US

Adding the u to words like color or behavior (colour - behaviour) is also starting to look and feel pretty normal to me despite what my spell check thinks!

I can't go along with that "u" thing in color or behavior. I just can't. The "s" and "z" thing I got used to.

ARGH! They are used everywhere and becoming more and more everyday language (not in our house though!) I really hate them.

Have you noticed that some Singaporeans use the phrase "so called" incorrectly?

the misuse of "literally" - as in: "i literally died when you said that!"
no you didn't. you're still here annoying me, aren't you?

writing "here here", when they mean "hear, hear"

referring to "fats" in advertisements for slimming products!
