Indonesia's new immigration rules

Post by Joseph27 » 11th Apr, '11, 17:20

I was totally amazed by the Indonesian governments latest piece of legislation that just passed through the DPR and is expected to be ratified by the President next month - basic summary is that if you are married to an Indonesia, you are eligible for PR status after 2 years of marriage. It is a new visa class which gives the partner full rights hitherto entirely ignored. So now if I want I can easily be employed in Indonesia, I can buy property, and I can enter and exit the country without visa on arrival. Most countries have this as standard practice - Indonesia was entirely exclusionary and despite my wife and children being Indonesia, I could only stay for 30 days and then pay to extend. "I really love you" she said. "Is that the champagne talking" he asked. "No" she laughed. "That's me talking to the champagne"

For sure a lot of people will abuse but as with any other country, in time there's a clamp down. Still its better that its offered and to make peoples lives easier than it is to restrict it for everyone.
