errr... I have no interest whatsoever in defending JA's sexual behavio(u)r, but how is his journalistic behavior substantially different from, say, the leaking of the pentagon papers? Do folks here really believe that we were better off not knowing about US war crimes in Vietnam and that Ellsberg should be condemned for revealing "state secrets"? Granted, JA should have been more careful about protecting individual identities in leaked documents and, granted, he's basically a douchebag personally, but his wikileaks activities definitely fall within a journalistic tradition that has great value.

Here is a Four Corners piece on Assange and the rape allegations, for what it's worth.

You will probably find that most people really aren't interested in anything other than what comes out of official newspapers and whatever the government line is - even though they possess an otherwise healthy a degree of cynicism. I am positive that if that the pentagon papers story was coming out now, a lot of people on this board would would happily call for the scalp of those involved. Wikileaks gave us video of the US murdering innocent people in Iraq, they gave us a glimpse into the rationale of why certain decisions are made and they helped us realize that despite many strong positive attributes - the US government continues to act as a belligerent waning Empire. Julian Assange's bedroom antics aside - his work with wikileaks has made a positive difference.avatarless wrote:Here is a Four Corners piece on Assange and the rape allegations, for what it's worth.
"truth is a group of metaphors, metonyms, and anthropomorphisms; a sum of human relation which is poetically and rhetorically intensified, metamorphosed and adored so that after a long time it is then codified in the binding canon."
