ITunes Music Store - Singapore
Finally (I think)
Apple half-adds 40+ countries to iTunes Store, App Store
July 10, 2008 iTunes digg this
In an unusual half-expansion of the iTunes Store, Apple today added over 40 countries to the iTunes Store’s pull-down list of international stores, yet directed their users to English-language versions of the App Store rather than localized stores with traditional iTunes content. Many of the countries, including China, Korea, Lebanon, Russia, and Vietnam, notably lack significant English-speaking populations.
A brief skim of the App Store pages for these countries suggests that they are still in the process of being built, and may well be localized only as the iPhone and iPod touch expand in popularity overseas. The limited versions of the App Store sometimes lack for “Top Apps” and other featured content sidebars, while the absence of traditional iTunes Stores apparently reflects a lack of purchasable music, video, and other non-interactive downloadable content in those countries.
The complete list of new iTunes App Store countries is:
Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Israel, Korea, Kuwait, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

Re: ITunes Music Store - Singapore
what's the crack with iTunes music? How many devices can I have the music installed on? I've currently got three (ipods for the bedroom and car and a shuffle for the plane) and there's a possibility of a fourth if I go for the iPhone. And do they count the computer as a device?
Hmmmm....don't think you can play Apple DRM via the Xbox360 media extender either.....

I would think once you've purchased the music from iTunes you can install it on whatever player you want. You can even legally share it with someone else at least once - but more than once I think. 'Share' might just mean putting it on a different computer now that I think of it, so I think it's 3-4 times. I've bought songs on iTunes and given them to Mr. S and vice-versa, so for sure you can legally share it with someone else at least once.

Apple will make it as difficult as it can for you to use music in the way you probably think you should.
I've been using it for years, but for only certain things.
Would be good if Amazon allowed you to buy mp3s outside of the States.

Re: ITunes Music Store - Singapore
Funny you say that, Sardonicus. I just had an issue with iTunes music on my iPod yesterday. I don't have a lot of music from iTunes, most of my stuff is ripped from CDs I own, but I discovered that the few iTunes songs I do have were no longer playing on my iPod - but I could get them to play through my iTunes library on my computer. After a search online, we discovered the 'fix' was to buy a single song from iTunes and download it and put it on the iPod - this was to correct some registration issue and after I did it, my iTunes songs play again. Weird thing is I know the songs used to play on the iPod - the only change that has recently happened is I accidently dumped all the music except 2 new playlists off last week, so I had to put everything back on again and I suspect it's since then that the iTunes songs were not playing. Stranger still was the fact that the iTunes stuff Mr. S put on my computer that he purchased with his user ID still worked - it was only the stuff purchased with my user ID that didn't.Sardonicus wrote:Apple will make it as difficult as it can for you to use music in the way you probably think you should.
If I were a dedicated conspiracy theorist, I'd say Apple sets a time limit on iTunes songs to force you to buy more in order to keep them playing on your iPod
Edit: Didn't realize Amazon sold mP3s. Since I still have a US address and US credit cards, I should be able to buy from them - I'll have to check it out

Re: ITunes Music Store - Singapore
Re the iTunes glitch, everytime I rebuild my PC I have to copy old files back onto it to make sure I get my old tunes (although after quite a while after iTunes was around Apple finally started to allow you to re-download whatever you've purchased online from them).
Re Amazon, that won't work - if your IP address shows you're in Singers, you won't get the files. If you can get this to work please let me know. I think Amazon is better in that they offer a lightly different library of music, are 89 cents, and of higher bitrate. I think.
Another thing I don't like about Apple is it doesn't allow you to copy from your iPod to your PC (unless you download a work-around).

Nobody needs an iPhone. It's just something to whip out of your pocket and show off whilst chatting to other nerds.

Well from what I can gather at the moment, Neo's biggest achievement so far is getting it to emulate his Blackberry. Partly. Getting it to talk to the GPS the way the Bb does may be this week's project.Sardonicus wrote:what she said

Played with the HTC Touch Diamond over the weekend. Very nice phone. And it's not an Apple.

Re: ITunes Music Store - Singapore
yes, it does. if you set your iPod for HD use, you can copy all the files off it and onyto your computer. of course, the files are then masked with weird codes so you don't know what they are, but if you then tell your iTunes to download songs from the directory where the files are located it will recognise the files and name them correctly. i've done this with Fyn's new laptop.Sardonicus wrote:Another thing I don't like about Apple is it doesn't allow you to copy from your iPod to your PC (unless you download a work-around).

Forget his battery life - he killed a courtesy car last week by leaving it all cabled up 24/7.
Re: ITunes Music Store - Singapore
If I beg nicely, can you get Neo to buy me an iPhone and send it over? (seem that buying from Optus without a plan and paying a A$80 network unlocking fee is the way yo go)

my only concern is what's going to happen when i finally buy a new computer: given our home network, i have already authorised 4-5 machines for my purchased music...
