Re: HTC TyTN II
It does, except for one thing: a power point to charge it from. It eats batteries!

Re: HTC TyTN II
Reviews don't seem to indicate battery life is a killer. Obviously if you have Bluetooth and WiFi on all the time it's going to drain the juice. In reality, if it lasts 16 hours without a charge when used frequently it's fine. I tend to plug my mobile devices into the mains when at home or in the office.

Given what the HTC is & does, the shortish battery life is not unexpected. Awesome gadget in all other respects.

Re: HTC TyTN II
Is it using WinMob 5.0 or 6.0?
I have a dopod (htc) 900 that's now over two years old an have been debating upgrading to the TyTN II or the new version htc U1000 "advantage" once it's released in Asia (only released this month I believe in europe). I believe someone here bought the dopod U1000 when it first came out. Was it FM? $500 bucks difference in price between the TyTN ii and the U1000 would pay for the underwater housing for my 860IS Canon with some change left over.

WinMob 6.
It's the Querty keyboard that makes it the killer device.

I have the Dopod 810 and still think it's an excellent gadget.

Re: HTC TyTN II
The dopod 900 also has the qwerty keyboard but it's like a convertible tablet notebook. open up like a notebook & swivel the screen around 180degrees and close and poof, a normal looking PDA. Has the automatic flipping of the screen orientation between landscape and portrait. I've also heard that the 810 is a darn good unit and lots of people are keeping them. The 900 wasn't as popular as it's rather heavy for it's size. The qwerty keyboard was the reason I got the 900 as well. I hates T-Pads with a vengence.

A number of people at work have them, and rate them.
Also the latest Blackberry Client with it, apparently makes the battery life more usable.
ActiveSync Scheduled regularly or especially in "Always On" mode will kill your battery life.
Hey Fuzz, i've still got my O2 XDA Exec (different branding but same as Dopod 900) i use it as a paperweight mainly, although often take it as backup on trips.
On this front if you can wait i would check out the Sony Xperia which is due later this year i believe, full keyboard, similar features Win Mo 6.1 and Sony
man i love these smilies.

One big issue is the graphics drivers are pretty poor considering it has a reasonable specification, although HTC might be doing something about this eventually.
Fuzz: Vaguely related note, you can download WinMo 6.0 ROMS for the Dopod 900 if you wish, I upgraded my Dopod c720w to Win Mobile 6, based on a Canadian ROM (still working well) found something similar for the Exec.

I know where I am!
So when it says " The TyTN II supports the full spectrum of network standards, guaranteeing that you will stay in touch ANYWHERE in the world" this means it would work everywhere in Aus not just the 2 places with a functioning terrestrial network??

Re: HTC TyTN II
No, obviously they got a bit carried away with the marketing. Won't work in the middle of the outback nor in antartica. But it's a very well connected phone.....Tack wrote:I know where I am!

Re: HTC TyTN II
I have the Tytn II for some time now. Overall not bad, actually nothing to complain about except it is a bit chunky because of the keyboard and I don't like the GPS software but otherwise it's good. Battery life is not a problem, I have Bluetooth on all the time and Wifi when I need to.

Yes, TomTom. Haven't tried Garmin or any other software but surely you can. You get TomTom for free though (with one map) so I didn't bother to try something else so far

Re: HTC TyTN II
Having just discovered the HTC Touch Cruise I was seriously considering it as a replacement to my trusty D810. But then I found this HTC Class Action. The demo of the problem is pretty compelling.
