Does anyone else remeber the bear that used to appear in the Andy Williams show and ask for biscuits but never got any?

So where can I buy a portable internet, WiFi enabled radio, so I can carry it around the house and enjoy Beeb2 or comedy on Beeb7 anywhere in the hoose?

Mr. S recently got one of these: http://www.slimdevices.com/pi_overview.html It will play internet radio and mp3 music that is stored on your computer.

Groove Salad is fab! Thanks for the link Jedi.
Life is comprised of infinite possibilities; some known, others a mystery and destined to remain so. And what of the vast unknown, the realms beyond which knowledge has no established boundaries or parameters? Who is to say what exists or what is possible?

I had no problem listening to Singapore from either Afghanistan over Christmas and New Year or from Pakistan for the last two weeks.Bender wrote:We've been having fun listening to internet radio from all over the place... except Singapore! Lush, Class, etc all seem to have the same problem - the stream keeps being interrupted, so we're getting more pauses (while the buffer fills), than sound.
Most other providers, worldwide, we don't have this problem. Anyone have similar experiences? Anyone know what causes it?
We're using a Sagem standalone internet/FM radio.
I use an Acoustic Energy receiver:

Re: Internet Radio
got the same one as FM, agreed, it is fab, well worth the dosh. however our transformer did go pop, but then again I have an electrical spirit (read dodgy wiring apparently in my flat). Bought new transformer, still works, absolutely love it, and it will play music off a shared folder on your computer

I have Roku Soundbridge M1001 - I sleep to Klassik FM from Germany.
It's great because it updates its firmware regularly and the model still hasn't changed in the past one - two years. Pretty stable!

Errr.....why not just use your computer? Well, only thing I listen to on the radio is any Tigers games, so not overly important.
And I believe bender is in Australia.

Computer in study. The internet radio is just a small bedside radio. I like falling sleep and waking up to BBC Radio 4.Fat Bob wrote:Errr.....why not just use your computer? Well, only thing I listen to on the radio is any Tigers games, so not overly important.

Re: Internet Radio
I checked, they were the last ones in any of their stores - bought from Dick Smith Electronics (which is part of the Woolworths Group). I'm keeping one and have given the other away as a gift.Fresh Mint wrote:That price is an absolute steal! More available?
Even though they were on sale in Australia, at that price it would have been worth paying the postage to send one to Singapore, where the only thing you'd need to do to use it is get a $2 adaptor for the mains plug to fit a Singapore power outlet (the mains voltage in Oz and Singapore are the same).
I think it'd be a great idea if those of us who had the time, and were willing, were to let other members know when there are insane bargains available and offer to shop for each other, or act as 'freight forwarders' to avoid the ridiculous shipping charges imposed by some online sellers. This is something I was bitching about a couple of days ago (see topic). It'd be easy to transfer/exchange payments via Paypal.
I'd be happy to do it, what do others think?

At that price I would have bought one. Would be nice to wakeup to Groove Salad.
Have you tried it yet Bender... does it support shoutcast streams?

Have tried it - it works, including Groove Salad, just fine. Don't know about the Shoutcast thing (and cannot check the Shoutcast website at the moment - blocked here at work).Jedi wrote:Have you tried it yet Bender... does it support shoutcast streams?
The radio uses the Reciva website, which allows you to set up favourites lists, etc which then appear on the radio's display. There's a pdf version of the manual on the Grundig website, maybe that'll answer your question?

That is a nice box for that price. I wonder if Tricky Dicky will ship overseas. QAs a member of the Richmond Football Club, I get a 10% discount on certain tricky itmes. I wonder if this is one. I doubt it.

Re: Internet Radio
Have you managed to find a store with one in stock? The staff member I talked to this morning checked their computer, then telephoned the 4 stores showing stock (one left in each store) to confirm - none of them actually had the item in store.baloo wrote:That is a nice box for that price.
