My old phone was lost/stolen a few weeks ago. Since then, I've apparently been sending BoD some random Chinese SMSes.
Here's the message:

IMEI: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx/700 (x being random numbers)
I vaguely recall setting some security to my old phone whereby an SMS is sent to BoD should someone use my lost phone with a different SIM card. My question is can I use the IMEI information above to disable my old phone? Cheers.

IMEI is the "International Mobile Equipment Identity".
Supposedly you can get it stopped (from Wiki): The IMEI number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used to stop a stolen phone from accessing the network. For example, if a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call his or her network provider and instruct them to "ban" the phone using its IMEI number. This renders the phone useless, regardless of whether the phone's SIM is changed.
Best of luck though, seem to remember Singapore not bothering to include this as part of their set up. You can try though.

FB is right. Network providers here do not have the technology to do it. What the phone manufacturer can do is to block the IMEI number. I will then be notified if whoever has the phone now brings it to the service centre for repair. All a bit pointless as I do not want to go to the extent of filing a police report.

But will the service centre actually fix the phone? If not, then at least the person who has it will know that the former owner knows it and furthermore they won't be able to get the phone to work again. Sounds like justice to me & you wouldn't even need the police.

The phone has already been reported lost so the service centre will not repair/upgrade the software. They will call to alert me that the phone has been brought in. Whoever brings it in will have to proof how he/she manages to get hold of phone, proof of purchase etc.
