Caon Ixus 960IS....

Post by Fat Bob » 6th Mar, '08, 19:15

...just bought one, with underwater casing. First dives at end of April. Cool or what?!?!?!

Depends whether your diving is on a reef somewhere or off the coast of Scotland.

So there's no reefs in Scotland? (I'm really asking, I've never even thought of diving in the UK, it's frolly freezin'!)

Insert "tropical" into the above.

As far as I can work out, rocks coming to the surface are known as shoals, and corals coming to the surface are known as reefs. But I'm sure the distinction isn't 100%. After all, they'll both rip the arse out of your boat.

Hmmm...supposedly there are reef over 2 million years old or something! Plus a lot of german boats from WWI off Scapa Flow...in the Orkneys....which to me sounds like the frolly freezin' places I was talking about above!

But no, off to Malapascua to hopefully see thresher sharks and see what the rest of the diving is like. Should be fun!

I don't know if you've done dry-suit diving, FB, but that's what you'd need in Scappa - bloomin' brass monkeys...

Where's Malapascua?

Ah, so being pedantic comes back and bites you on the arse does it?

Malapascua is a small island north of Cebu in the 'Peens. Off for a rugby trip to Manila so thought I'd get some diving in before. Should be fun!

I did both the HK10's and then 7's in 2002 and also the Kowloon 10's and then 7's in 2005. Both very difficult. No way would I think about doing the Manila 10's, HK or Kowloon 10's and then HK 7's. I'd be a right wreck!

Missing the HK 7's this year, seeing how much miss them and then figuring if I'm going next year. The weekend is getting more and more expensive, tickets are harder to come by, and altogether, it's a big call in order to forget an awful lot of the weekend!

And this year the HK7's is the week before the Manila 10's. Interesting........

It is getting more difficult. And expensive...

I am sure, however, that you will manage to have a hugely debauched time, no matter what difficulties that you have to overcome...

Well done!
