Which camera?

Ok. I was initially going to get the IXUS 870 but Mr Sate felt it would be better to get something different from his (which is the 850) .
The LCD screen of my previous camera, Panasonic Lumix FX9, died on me. So can anyone suggest a camera that is as slim and can take good close-up shots. And I mean close-up shots (within 10cm). Not too keen on panasonic brand anymore.
Any leads would be good like which brands I should be looking at. Am tempted to get CAnon as my friends who has them has had them for ages so they're lasting. I am lost as to what to look at at the moment. Thanks

Canon Ixus 870?
I've had several Ixus cameras. All of them great. Would suggest not to go for the current 900 series and stay with the 800 series. But that's my view on shutter lag.
If you were being green, you'd use Mr Sate's. Should I ask why you're not?

You may not like Panasonic, but this one lets you focus down to 1cm

All in all sounds like a great little camera. Only issue perhaps is the lack to a big zoom

Get an 870. Best compact on the market.

Sate, you did ask, we gave opinions. If you and your bloke feel that the 870 isn't one worth getting, then the only other thing I can suggest is one of the other Ixus models. I think there's quite a few on the market, not just one or two.
What are you looking for in a camera that you feel the 870 won't give you? It does pictures at close range (simple setting change to macro). It has quick start up and one of the best shutter lags out there.
There's other Ixus models, I would steer away from the top end one (980?) and have a look at the lower end Ixus.I notice the Ixus 95 is only $399 (promo at the mo, can probably get better by a few $$ if you go to Parisilk and the like). A few more options as well.

What about a panasonic?
OK, why don't you nip down the shops and see which ones fit your size. Then list them here and we'll give you an opinion.

They don't come much smaller than the Ixus 100.

ok I'm thinking of these two options:
1) Canon IXUS 95 IS
2) Canon IXUS 100 IS
What do you think?

100 has 12.1 mp but it's still a snapshot camera. Depends what you want from it, Sati.

The Exlims are great for portability, but take only so-so pictures. I have a new 8.5 mp but my old 5mp was better. Problem with the thinness is they're not that sturdy. Come to think of it neither are anorexics.

Another vote for the 870

I have an Ixus 800 which is a step or two below the 870 I guess. The 800 is small enough to fit in most of my handbags, which means I can have it with me pretty much all the time - and I'm sure the 870 is pretty much the same size. It takes great pictures and even the video function is pretty good for short little clips. I'd vote for the 870 as well - I really don't think you can go wrong with a good Canon.

870 is a fair bit thinner than the older models. Slightly taller thouigh to fit in the large LCD at the back.

We bought a Sony T90 the other week, a great slim easy to use camera. The smile feature is great unless you are like me who officially can't smile

Agree, that's exactly what Crackers uses it for.
