Even the smaller IXUS range of cameras are shooting HD Video these days. I'm not surprised by the quality.
So…if you wish to wish a wish, you may swish for fish with my Ish wish dish.

Have to have another look. But they may have edited in Final Cut Pro, which has powerful colour correction.
Doesn't look like they've used a lot of effects though, just balanced it all really nicely and lifted the highlights ( i think )
HD is just beautiful to shoot with, even when it's HDV and not full broadcast quality HD Cam. We use HDV very occasionally, and the channels limit the percentage you are allowed to use - unless there's a very good reason, like some kind of "behind the scenes" or amcam look you want. In which case, I would usually colour treat it in FCP to make sure it is clearly for effect and not pretending to be broadcast quality. If you can afford it, you go to a full blown post house for "telecine" but that's expensive.
It looks great when it's stand alone, but when you mix formats in the same programme, you can see the difference.
The cameramen tell me that using Prime lenses makes all the difference - full broadcast quality lenses, so take a look at the lenses they used too.
But mostly, it's just really nicely shot by someone who knows how to tell a sweet and gentle story. Sniff...
if you are thinking of buying, EPY, I can put you in touch with some cameraman friends who use HD all the time. Their opinions would be more accurate than mine. I mostly just wave my arms around a lot.

Yes, don't use zooms. If you want to use zooms you might as well buy a compact.

No, but mines a 3yo 8mp compact that cost me about $400.
Not sure what the newer 110 model can do, but I doubt it would be as good as the 7D.

Are three-chippers a thing of the past I wonder. The key question is how this matches up to the dedicated video camera, not how it matches up to an Ixus 870.
