The Ashes

Post by baloo » 10th Jul, '13, 23:40

About the only cricket I bother watching these days.

I uses the Aussies aren't as bad as many thought, and therms aren't as good as they thought.

But bowling is to our problem, our batting is. This test could be over in 3 days.

Fantastic last wicket stand by Agar and Hughes, broke quite a few records, and scoring 98 by Agar as a number 11....well, takes the breath away, keeps the game interesting and puts the Aussies in command.

England lost 2 early wickets in the 2nd innings so this could be a close game indeed.

And good on Star Sports Cricket - very few adverts during the game, and it's just constant banter between the commentators - currently chatting about Beefy Botham's socks! They could do without their highlight fillers at lunch, tea etc, where a ball is being hit every second, quite confusing for my old brain!

Bring it on!

Wow! What a test. The game swung both ways throughout the whole 5 days - England collapsing, Australia collapsing, Agar hanging on, England making a reasonable 2nd innings with great work by Bell, Australia getting so close in their 2nd innings.

Fantastic test, a few controversies and a thrilling game.

And of course a great result for England. Bring on Thursday!

It's reminded me how good test cricket really is. If anyone still thinks 20-20 is still a better game then they are seriously deluded, ADHD or are a subcontinent bookie.

I know, 4.5 days of quality cricket with a nail biting end. Loved it indeed.

Never really got into 20-20, and I enjoy the ODI World Cup but that's about it when it comes to one dayers. Test Cricket is just top notch.

And here we are a month later - England have won the series, retained the Ashes, still with one game to go.

Australia had the chance to win the 3rd Test but the weather stopped that, and some good work by Bell in his second innings (along with the tail enders) followed by some great wickets in the 4th test means it's all over as a competition....the Aussies are now playing for pride. Do they have any?

The return series starts in November, with Australia having another series in India prior to that. Could be an interesting year for British sport indeed!

The series so far has confirmed we are shit. It's also revealed that England are just a little bit better than shit.

That's pretty much what the ICC Rankings says. But as there's only one Test Match series of importance, it's great that we've won it 3 times in a row.

Australia having a great 2nd test , Michael Johnson just too good for England right now.

I said it during the English leg, we aren't that bad and the English aren't that good.

What a nightmare series for England, 4-0 and whitewash looking a distinct possibility !

There must be some deep divisions in that squad. Swann running off. Monty not getting a spell despite Root getting 2 in the last innings. Cooke not looking too pleased that Monty took a wicket. Pietersen playing very selfishly and it's condoned. Cooke dropping the easiest slips catch ever.

It must suck to be English.

Nah, only sucks if you're part of the England cricket squad.

Well done Australia, England almost made a game of it with some good bowling in the first innings. Completely not part of it in the 2nd.
