I recently saw a documentary on food security, where they went to Senegal and talked to local fishermen, all of whom were just barely scraping out a living because fish were scarce and smaller than ever. Turned out the government had sold fishing rights to European companies who'd trawl the deeper waters and leave nothing for anybody else.

Reunion Islands give the French some right to fish in the Indian Ocean I guess. And I think it's pretty clear that she was totally, completely sailing alone. I admire her for trying.
