Transporting a doggie by sea freight??
Not for me but I saw a posting on another place and thought of you lot who know everything about expat-pets. Someone trying to move their doggie from the UK to Asia. Any thoughts?

i would advise against it as it can take as long as 6 weeks, depending on where they have to go.

Definitely against it... it takes 6 weeks during which they wouldnt know if the dog gets walked, how it gets treated, etc.

bloody hell, shipping by sea sounds like a horrifically bad idea to me! makes me think that they planning to lock him up in a container with a bucket of water and a bag of dog food, and hope for the best at the end of the trip?!

I wouldn't do it either. However, I know a guy who worked on a container ship. While you can never be sure, judging from his description of his colleagues and work environment, I wouldn't be surprised for a dog to become a VIP passenger and the little ship's mascot, eating and sleeping with the crew for the entire time. Those guys get bored - having a mutt hanging around would probably liven things up a bit.
A woman walked into a pub and asked the barman for a double entendre. So he gave it to her.

I assumed the Dog was dead and either being shipped for a funeral or it was stuffed and they wanted to ensure they could get airconditioned containers.

Re: Transporting a doggie by sea freight??
cheers guys - so not a good idea - sea freight. I shall pass this on.
I presume there are specialist companies that move pets by air? I'm sure I saw a thread on this somewhere but I cannot think where.
EDIT:
Dont' bother answering this one. Just found a thread Dog in a Box - I'll post a link to that on the other place. Cheers!

I am pretty sure the shipment of live animals via container is specifically prohibited in the terms and conditions of all major global carriers. It's not an option.
