Fiji island, resort, hotel...?
With a nod to my thread two years ago, when I asked your opinions on going at all, I've decided it's time to go to Fiji. (My Fijian ex-colleagues there approve.)
Have you been? Did you like it? Where did you stay and would you recommend it?
What is there to do, especially if one is not a waterbaby?
Ta.

Been there, but I was poor at the time.. sat by the pool for 5 days...That being said everyone around there seemed to be a surfer type,... There are buses to towns where you can shop I guess.....

One would think that holidays on the Fijis are focussed around watersports and beach. Canuck is just jealous that the surfer hunks ignored her

Jokes (for lack of a better term) like this really just come off as rude in written formLichtgestalt wrote:Canuck is just jealous that the surfer hunks ignored her

That's because the quick reply box doesn't have smileys (unless you know them by heart)

Oh I like nothing better than to sit and look at the sea, I just don't swim or dive, etc.
Re: Fiji island, resort, hotel...?
there will be gobs of aussies there tho, and you know what they're like right?

Re: Fiji island, resort, hotel...?
They'll be too busy playing with their dinkums, fallen bears and flattened drunk lizards to be too annoying.

Re: Fiji island, resort, hotel...?
Last year (pre stopover at Chez Kooky.... without water feature!) stayed at The Fiji Resort & Spa which is owned by the Hilton chain. We didn't stay in the actual hotel but in the 3 bedroom villa which was just lovely - private, facing the sea. I think they also do 1 bedroom villas, there are around 10 altogether from memory.
Otherwise, not been on my destination radar so can't recommend alternative accommodation.
As for activities other than water sports - golf, tennis, island hopping....and lazing by the pool. Pretty much just a chill - out destination !

Ah I couldn't remember where you stayed, Daff, but I have been looking at that one. I think Tas has stayed at the Sheraton, also on Denarau. Anybody care to comment on the Westin, same island? Biased review of course
Boutique hotels, i.e., smaller than all of the above, our usual choice, seem to be incredibly expensive or incredibly basic.

I stayed here Kooky: http://www.tripadvisor.in/Hotel_Review- ... _Levu.html
Don't know about the Sheraton
Noticed the Intercontinental now sitting on #2 on the Trip Advisor. But as I had gone on my own, in the end I did get a bit bored. I didn't meander off the site, because I went to read and sunbake. But I'd go there again (if you need some company while Neo is on his Ipad - could cross over 3 days inbetween LOL) Rooms were lovely - though took them 2 days to fix my blocked shower drain which seriously reduced the relax factor 2 mornings in a row. The balance to that was it was still fairly new at time so couple teething problems, and I'd managed to slip in on an opening price package. Definitely spend the extra money to get the view of the sea side, gorgeous. I somehow lucked out with an end garden room with wrapped around and ended up with a sea view too. It's a toss up between the upstair or down stair room. The upstair balcony gorgeous with an outside bath. The down stairs room has the bath as well, with little less privacey. but the advantage of walking straight out onto the grass and scoring your own deck chairs and can wander in and out, minus walking around to the back stairs. I loved the little ice machine in the wall outside the different sections - so with your bottle G&T and mixer from the little hotel shop, well set up

edit: just noted a comment on the photos about service - it wasn't brilliant, but I had read that was fairly typical in that area. Smiles but tad hopeless and forgetful.

Any luck K? How about Tahiti or the Cook Islands? I was having a quick look around for a potential stop-off as part of a round the world trip in Dec but anywhere half-way decent was outrageously expensive.

Re: Fiji island, resort, hotel...?
That's the one - in fact just the other day I was thinking it would be a fitting destination.
Neo's 40 next July, 10 years come July since we left the UK too, 10 year wedding anniversary last day of this year - we should just have a year long party
BTW as we're reviewing the Pacific islands - hairdresser and his chap recently went to New Caledonia. Apparently there's not a lot there

Some well travelled friends went to Hawaii for the first time earlier this year, loved it and would definitely return.

I'd like to go to Hawaii, but it takes as long or longer to get there from here as it does to get to Chicago or the East Coast! Go figure.
