Calling All Perth Experts
I'm going with Duck for a short holiday later this month in Perth. A couple of days relaxing, driving around some vineyards and a couple of days watching this at the Rockingham Motorplex;
Three times noisier than F1 and twice as exciting
Anyone got any recommendations for (a) decent hotel either central or south Perth and (b) good value car hire firm?

I thought you went once but it was closed viewtopic.php?f=16&t=5925
Consensus seems to be decent hotels and Perth don't go together. The one we stayed in was horrendously noisy, due to rooms being round a central atrium. OK apart from that, but not special. Hyatt Regency, IIRC.
(Was that your and Duck's coming out post, BTW? )

I'm not a fan of Perth central but I am a big drag racing fan and the last time I went in the UK was about 15 years ago. As far as I know Perth is the nearest drag race strip to Singapore and there's a major meeting there on the 27th/28th Jan. It's my birthday month treat
As for Duck and I

A big drag racing fan! Spike, how do you run in the shoes?
A woman walked into a pub and asked the barman for a double entendre. So he gave it to her.

Uh huh Spike, so this time you really want to mix with the creme de la creme of Perth society...going to watch the top fuelers do their stuff.

Car hire - Bayswater Car Hire is very cheap, and we've used them loads of times. They don't have an office at the airport though, so you'd need to get a taxi to your hotel.
Hotels - Esplanade in Fremantle? Never been there, but restaurant's supposed to be good. Might be worth checking on Trip Advisor.

Gets some average to bad reviews on Tripadvisor, IIRC. I wasn't a fan of Fremantle.

i stayed at the Esplanade in Freo a few years back and liked it. quite central and close to some very nice restaurants at the seaboard as well.

Yeah I read it was a bit tired but you never know, may have had a refit, and let's face it Tripadvisor reviews can be a bit dodgy too.
I think I expected too much of Fremantle and, as somebody pointed out, I live in Sydney and it has everything Fremantle has but on steroids - including the scrapping drunks

Re: Calling All Perth Experts
We stayed at this place a lot, but the most recent was about 5 years ago. Good value, and right opposite Bayswater Car Hire.

If the racing is at Rockingham.....well Rockingham is about an hour south of Perth, so you could also stay in Mandurah (about 20 minutes south of Rockingham). My sister stayed in Seashells at Mandurah about 3 weeks ago and liked it (and she's quite fussy/discerning).
