furniture
We are setting up house now int he UK and Mr. Sate directed me to Lewis' website to look at beds. I found it a bit uninspiring. Maybe it is the photos, I don't know.
ARe there any other places to get furniture from (Not IKEA please)? Where do people int he UK buy their furniture from generally? Is it only high street stores or are there others I am not aware of?
Price-wise, mid. Style-wise, contemporary.
I know this is a strange place to post but believe or not, mumsnet isnt very useful as i think it is too huge (too many topics) and layout to unfriendly so only very few people read posts not directly related to them. I think there might be more brits here who can respond better!

Re: furniture
2nd hand shops. Furniture only a mere 20 years ago was built to last 200 years. Now it's built to last about a decade.

Re: furniture
Try Next, Habitat, Feather and Black (for beds). Buy some interiors magazines (Ideal Home, House Beautiful) and look at the Stockists details for things you like the look of.
Re: furniture
thanks . Checked out the F&B and Next. Definitely me.
Only buying bed while I am in sg ... everything else when I move over and can actually check it out in person.

Re: furniture
Try "Living etc" - modern, contemporary design in most of the houses they show.
(As you can tell I have a serious Interiors Magazine habit)

I would be very keen to learn how you maintain your serious designer home (i'm asuming you translate that magazine into your home design) with a 2 year old around

Re: furniture
Easy. I just keep all the kids stuff in two rooms - their bedroom and the dining room off kitchen. The rest of the house is kids stuff free. Ornament wise you just have to ensure that you dont have any glass ornaments or breakable/valuable things in places they cant reach/shake etc. It has made me rethink what I put out and what it looks like and have to say it is much more clutterfree than it was before kids!
"I really love you" she said. "Is that the champagne talking" he asked. "No" she laughed. "That's me talking to the champagne"

No, Sate, I have designer magazines, NOT a designer home!
But I spend a lot of time day-dreaming about Perth........

In the UK, I bought a lot of really nice pieces at auctions that I still have and intend to keep forever.
Re: furniture
so it is perth you are moving to then. We will have to make a trip to Australia to activate our PR. I was thinking of going to Perth if my agent says ok, even though our sponsor is sydney and melbourne, just so baby sate doesnt have to endure a longer trip.
I have to look into this aution thing.
