You're there Daff? Ghastly! The Filipinos we know abroad are beside themselves, though luckily families are safe. Take care.

Daff: I have 3 bins bags of boys clothes 0 - 18 months which I sorted this morning. I can't seem to find anywhere to donate them here (drop off times don't fit with my schedule). I'm happy to pay to send across a box to one/some of your colleagues who would find them useful, if you could PM me a name and address.

Congrats on the new job!
I know we 've talked about it and your situation will be different but when we threw caution to the wind and moved to Manila we had the time of our lives (one of them). There are certainly plenty of stories to tell and now you have your first biggie. Good luck with it all.

Re: Tropical storm hits Manila
Had a pretty scary drive home in the wildest weather since Saturday's typhoon. I need one of those Singapore Ducks! Can someone fedex to me please?
It's stopped raining now and the wind seems to have calmed so hopefully this one may not be as bad as anticipated.

I sincerely hope it's not the calm before the storm. Out here, we have experienced this eerie calm in the past just before the onslaught of a (major) hurricane. Keeping my fingers crossed. xo

Life is comprised of infinite possibilities; some known, others a mystery and destined to remain so. And what of the vast unknown, the realms beyond which knowledge has no established boundaries or parameters? Who is to say what exists or what is possible?

Daff, hope it all goes well for you. Do take care and stay safe during this one. Wow, what an introduction to your new home.

Thanks all
The weather appears to have calmed here in Manila - still getting heavy showers but what would be expected at this time of the year apparently. Seems Typhoon Pepeng(local name) has veered North and hopefully won't wreak havoc there.

Re: Tropical storm hits Manila
Typhoon Pepeng veered away from Central Manila, though caused a lot of damage in Northern Luzon and so far 5 reported fatalities. The damage to agriculture is huge, including yet unharvested rice fields.
The big clean up continues here with many thousands still in temporary evacuation centres and an alarming amount of rubbish and debris blocking roads, drains etc. Many areas still have no power, and the threat of disease is increasing.
But the sun is shining (teporarily) and no major rainfall predicted today.
