A Sherlock Holmes novel - have to say i quite like all things Sherlock Holmes lately. I have been listening to the old time radio shows for years, loved the movie with R. Downey Jr - the second one, not too bad and the BBC series, is so far quite excellent. That being said, this book has come up to the mark and is very readable, well written and a page turner, no it didn't keep me awake at nights but it kept me coming back to read it. I liked the references back to original stories and the way Watson describes their friendship. The one thing i found slightly dissappointing is the end and the what i think is an overused theme. Maybe because i have read one along a very similar theme by Anne Perry recently... Anyway if you like Holmes and Watson well worth a look.

If you want to explore a modern, US version of Sherlock Holmes, the Agent Pendergast series of books by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child is pretty good fun:
