Sunday Breakfast venues

Post by daffodil » 25th Jun, '08, 18:39

A colleague is coming through Singapore on his way to Bali and is looking for a cool brekkie place - flying out around 2pm so hotel / Senso type brunch is out.

Any recommendations - I'm thinking along the lines of Marmalade Pantry but preferably not in a shopping mall! Any good ones out at Dempsey or Rochester? He's staying around Orchard, but happy to hop in a cab.

Thanks

Crossroad at the Marriot. There's Culina and Jones Grocer at Dempsey Road.

Show them the real Singapore. If its someone with extremely limited time in Singapore take them to your fav hawker center for Roti Prata or Prawn Noodles or to a Ba Kut Teh/Tea house for a real Singapore breakfast

Go Here on a early Sunday morning & get a table in the garden. Singapore Govt Ministers & even Prime Minister Thaksin of Thailand love this place. I miss this place so much. The wife, skankster & I used to go at least once a week for breakfast (usually on weekdays to avoid the crowds) On Sunday arrive early (opens at 6AM & is not bad till around 8ish) if you want to sit out under the trees, tour buses start bringing the Taiwanese around 11AM. I cherish my Ng Ah Sio Pork Rib Soup Eating House T-Shirt the owner gave me as a going away present after 10 years of regular patronage

Graze at Rochester Park is great for Sunday brunch. As is PS Cafe at Dempsey Rd.

I can't think of anything worse than pork ribs for breakfast, but I guess that's why I'll never get offered citizenship.

Don't think I'll be letting my boss anywhere near you, love ;)

Thanks all for the suggestions - think I'll steer him towards Whitebait and Kale.

HOw about the little cafe at the National Museum? I have only been to the main restaurant at Novus but did have a quick look at the the cafe on my way to the bathroom. Pretty casual and I can imagine the view to be quite nice in the day time. Not to mention a tour of the museum next door should she wish to.

If it's the one behind Novus, Q (I think there's one opposite, too) it was very average when we went.

edit: Daff, I think your W&K idea is ok, although never been one of my favourite places (good food, erratic service) but MP is a good brunch venue, and it is a posh shopping mall. :)

Actually, MP also comes under the "good food, erratic service" category, doesn't it?

How about Picotin? New restaurant from the chef of Sebastians?

Not been mself but heard it's a good brekkie.

Sebastian's is not a bad idea either, Bob - unless they're a vegetarian. :)

Given he's staying at the Hilton, W & K is pretty convenient and it was always one of my favourites, despite the occasionally interesting servIce.

He loved the food at MP but not the venue ( he's only half Singaporean). :D

This is just a few doors away from Culina? I think I've been there once and was pretty impressed with the eggs benny I had. Tiny place with some tres chic froggies with their I-don't-give-a-hoot-what-you-think-attire [smilie=whistle.gif]

yup, well we were there on a Sat morning, no real chic people to be seen :D (although I could see them being attracted) mostly couples or singles having a cuppa and brekkie, N of course wanted to snarf all the cream cakes and éclairs.

Same here. I find it rather strange eating in a shopping centre, albeit, a rather exclusive one.
