Aurum
I'd read the hype about Aurum at Clarke Quay and thought it would be all style/gimmick and no substance. Delaney went a couple of weeks ago and assured me the food was actually superb. I trust Delaney when it comes to food; he knows his onions.
So off we went on Saturday night, up the golden stairs, and had the set menu - called Fantasy IIRC - all ten courses of it, washed down with a couple of glasses of champagne.
Wow. Amazing. The waiter or chef describes every dish to you, which is a good thing or you really wouldn't appreciate just how clever it is, e.g., the ravioli dish has no pasta in it, the liquid ham dish contains no cheese but tastes cheesey. The tempura prawn in a golden broth, with its noodles piped in at the table by syringe, was incredible.
Lots of small dishes led up, in our case, to a main dish of steak - perfectly cooked to order and served with miniature vegetables.
Dessert was like a chemistry experiment - white chocolate mousse poached at the table in liquid nitrogen. Scrummy.
This taster menu was about S$160 a head, but you can order a la carte as well.
Well worth the experiment.

Re: Aurum
hmmm, I was thinking of going to Aurum but some of the reviews on the net haven't been the best. Has anyone else been ?
So…if you wish to wish a wish, you may swish for fish with my Ish wish dish.
Re: Aurum
If I'm not wrong, they closed for a while to fine-tune the menu and service after many disastrous reviews the first time they opened.baloo wrote:hmmm, I was thinking of going to Aurum but some of the reviews on the net haven't been the best. Has anyone else been ?

Re: Aurum
I think they did close, as apparently the changed the decor too.
I think, if you know what to expect and are not a meat and two veg type, you will enjoy it. It's very gimmicky but we three agreed the taste was there too.

Has Aurum closed ? Wasn't open the other night and the website says they'll be back soon. Anyone in the know ?
