Blenders ....
Do you have a blender? Do you like it? And what brand/model is it?
We had a cheapy Philips one, bought in HK a couple of years ago, which has been great for making the odd smoothie or milkshake but I was never really that happy with it and finally on Saturday night it gave up the ghost Lately I've been making smoothies every day (sometimes more than once a day) and using loads of frozen fruit, so need something that can handle that. Any suggestions?
Please and thank you

Re: Blenders ....
You need an osterizer, not a blender.
I got this Braun at Best Denki at Great World City about seven years ago and it is still going great guns. Make sure you get one with a glass jug. The plastic ones tend to get scratched and break.

I've never hear of an osterizer before, but the picture you put up is what I call a blender so thanks for the recommendation

Osterisers are very powerful American blenders. I bought one in Saudi many years ago and you could blend six inch bolts with it, no problem.sj23 wrote:I've never hear of an osterizer before, but the picture you put up is what I call a blender so thanks for the recommendation
Prayer has no place in public schools. Just like facts have no place in organised religion.

Oster is a US (?) brand, which was associated with Sunbeam (Australian) at one stage.
For a mega-blender, see Blendtec and watch some of the videos - fun!

A woman walked into a pub and asked the barman for a double entendre. So he gave it to her.

We had the same one in Aus. Brilliant blender. We now upgraded to a kenwood I think, stanless steel and matches the rest of the kitchen aplliances. Very stylish looking device. Shame it can't blend for shit.

Mr C would tell you any day that kitchen tools are For Men. He had his heart set on a 'Pitmaster 2000' when we had a garden. Gotta love the way they market these things to men. It's kitchen porn: everything's shiny and silver, or grey and Very Serious, with liberal use of the word 'professional' and a suggestion that Neil Armstrong probably made Eggs Benedict on the moon with one of these things.

I use mine a lot. Banana smoothies for breakfast. Yum Yum.

We have one of these. It's much better for ice crushing than the Philips we had before it. The Breville isn't cheap, but works well and has great 'benchtop presence'. There was also a short thread on this on expatsingapore, where the Braun got the thumbs-up from a couple of contributors.
I've seen some Breville stuff at Tangs, but not the full product range.

Re: Blenders ....
Thanks for the tips, ended up going with a Philips HR2094. Looked for Braun but Takashimaya wasn't v helpful (and it was a sh*tfight there due to the sales) and Robinsons didn't have any Brauns in stock. My friend had this Philips model and is really happy with it, so went with that. $119 at Robinsons. It's coping very well with my daily smoothies, including lots of frozen fruit

I buy nothing from Phillips as a point of principle as everything I've bought from them has been shit.
I was in Parisilk one day, said "Not Phillips" to the sales guy, and he said "The previous customer said the same thing".

Re: Blenders ....
So, a blender or ostraciser will do fruit juices? I thought I would have to get one of them juice extractors like A has, but they are very expensive. Will that Braun thingie do the job?

Re: Blenders ....
And will the pulp fit up a straw?
A juicer takes all the fibre out, right? And you're just left with all the sugars...so in theory a blender should be a better option, correct? I don't want milky slurpies, just a nice rich juice. Do the blenders do that?

Probably depends a lot on how big the straw is......azzam wrote:And will the pulp fit up a straw?

Re: Blenders ....
no, you'll have to filter it to achieve that.azzam wrote:And will the pulp fit up a straw?

from my experience, blenders (good ones) will make smoothies at best. generally (like Slinky says) you wont have juice liquid enough to go through a normal straw.azzam wrote:so in theory a blender should be a better option, correct?
