Re: Build more dams to stop floods/droughts
over 200mm today...Australia's third largest city is going to go under!
My mummy taught me to brush my teeth morning and night that is why I have no fillings. If you have good oral hygiene you don't need flouride to be put in the water. Nanny State! What's next? Queensland has the fattest people in the country so we are going to put laxatives in the water so we all get diarrhoea so we all lose weight because we are too stupid to stop over eating?
Regardless what happens when they goof with the mixture and half the population comes down with flouride poisoning..?

Anyway M may we chose to disagree?

Re: Build more dams to stop floods/droughts
So you think 30mg/L will give you any toxicity?
Considering you need more than 1g, that means you have to drink 33 litres of the infected water, probably in a day. Good going indeed!
Anyhow, the state has a choice of putting fluoride in the water supply or not. Putting it in means all those that are fecking useless in the world do not have poor teeth. Not putting it in means all those that are fecking useless in this world having poor teeth, and relying on the state to put those teeth right.
So yes, nany state, but your country has a lot of people that need nannying.

OMG there is a lot more in Queensland to be worried about than a little bit of fluoride in the drinking water...

Exactly..Pinklepurr wrote:OMG there is a lot more in Queensland to be worried about than a little bit of fluoride in the drinking water...
BTW Nanny Bligh (premier) plane got zapped (and it wasn't from the ground ) ohhhh!
Now we are not expecting sunshine till Saturday! Dam is nearly full!. Now comes the Mayor's official warning...
http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/environ ... 19k2g.html(Lord Mayor) Cr Newman this afternoon warned the combination of heavy rain, necessary releases from Wivenhoe Dam and higher than usual tides meant the Brisbane River could rise ''significantly''.
He said flood modelling suggested the biggest impacts would be felt this Wednesday and Friday of next week (January 21) when there would also be a king tide.
Time to stock up on the essentials.

ABC local radio had an expert on to tell us that if we want to save our valuable photographs and papers to put them in something waterproof and place them in a high place. I would never have thought of that. But this is the country that recommends that you employ a qualified electrician to change a plug.

What, you get a certificate to prove that you've electrocuted yourself? Cool!

Re: Build more dams to stop floods/droughts
I'm ok where we live but I work close to the brisbane river near the airport and we are starting to fill sandbags....
Currently still pouring rain up river!
There is an 8 metre wall of water coming from Toowoomba (see kooky's shocking pictures) it is estimated to hit the wivenhoe dam today and spill over the dam wall tonight. Brisbane will flood tomorrow! Bad! very bad! 30 suburbs are on flood alert!

Re: Build more dams to stop floods/droughts
mate, from the images i saw yesterday, you'd better get out of there. even if you're not in the directly affected area, the area will be in dire straits for a while. and if the amount of water is as massive as i read, what is the guarantee that the dam will hold?

Yep, Brisbane looks like it'll be a bit damp soon.

Re: Build more dams to stop floods/droughts
When I called last night, the folks swear black and blue that they won't be affected where they are! hmmmm. Our company has facility in Toowoomba - there was a bit of too-ing and fro-ing last night, but turns out they're all accounted for and ok, and the wall of water was through the main city. Awful stuff. Colleague daughter currently caught in the area of Perth fires and not in contact, so stress all round.
I'm just happy we're just a bit muggy and wet in 'ol Sydney.

Photos of the Toowomba flash flood. Scary to think it's making it's way down to Brisbane.

We think KK is in a bad location; will try to catch up with her.
Re: Build more dams to stop floods/droughts
The Dam is NOT going to hold.
It will reach 200% capacity (40% more than rated) today and spill over the walls. They can only release 250,000 Ml a day it is currently getting 1,000,000 Ml a day and it's still getting 300mm of rain upstream! City is totally screwed. Est up to 16 Mtr peak tomorrow.
Evacuating the city centre now.
At work we have lifted everything off the ground and sandbagged the building. Everyone has been sent home while they can.
We are fine and will not get flooded however we are expected to be isolated for a while and the power may be turned off. We are stocking up while we can.

This is never-ending. To all the forumers and their families in these areas, good luck and please take good care.
A woman walked into a pub and asked the barman for a double entendre. So he gave it to her.

Mr Oz, I can't believe that you don't already own your own water/nuclear/fire/bomb/mother-in-law proof bunker that can keep you and your family living for the next 60 years.Mr Oz wrote:We are fine and will not get flooded however we are expected to be isolated for a while and the power may be turned off. Yeah, so all of Brisbane CBD was told by their management to go home all at the same time. Way to go Brisbane people management - hope someone has used their brain to put on extra bus services.
