Citizenship

Post by Kooky » 24th Oct, '12, 13:10

We submitted online a couple of weeks ago and had our interviews and tests today.

We both got 20/20 in the tests even though not one of the answers was Don Bradman :( My Case Office processed my paperwork while I did my online test and then approved me on the spot [smilie=yahoo.gif] Neo had a different CO and was told his would take up to 60 days but let's see what comes through the email, allegedly to be sent by Friday.

Won't get our plants for about 4 months though, due to coming under City of Sydney which is a rather busy area :)

Oooh, and .....what did you do about the police check? I thought Singapore didn't do anymore for non-citizens.

You get a plant at the ceremony :)

We didn't do fresh police clearance certs; we rang before submitting online and they said not to bother, they'd tell us today if they wanted them. Were not mentioned but then we've lived here since we did them for PR so would not need foreign ones.

Ah, we waited 2 years after getting the PR before coming....ah well, I'm sure there's a way round it.

OK, what happened to my post? Grrr, no matter you answered my question anyway. Congrats, hope you are having some home grown bubbles to celebrate. :)

Sadly we are both under the weather, as is young Tas - too much excitement last week :)

Do Tasmanians get automatic citizenship? ;)

What's the benefit of having citizenship compared to PR?

My condolences.

When does the head get re-arranged?

I was waiting...

Citizenship v PR - well we will have to vote, it's compulsory. We would have to do jury service too. Um, think we get cheaper education? (Neo's in the last module of his MBA of course :) ) We can leave the country for an indefinite period; not sure how it works with PR, think you have to spend a certain amount of time here (SM may know this one.) We can get arrested [smilie=yahoo.gif] (and for me that has been an issue, I have had to watch myself and do non-arrestable, erm, stuff, as Neo would not have been impressed if I got deported. Well actually he may have been but not if it affected his application...)

Dunno what else. Oh yes, don't have to stand in the immigration queue that can take 2 hours to get through at Sydney airport.

Well we decided it does need some kind of celebration so Neo's gone for curries and will mix his Difflam with a bottle of cider.

Citizenship - you lose your self respect. You are no longer any different from the general scum walking in the area around you.

However, learning the response to the Aussie national anthem is easy ("Oi! Oi! Oi!") and, outside of Indonesia, no one really wants to blow you up.

It's not all that bad, she gets to keep her Queen.

Well, it's not really her birthday, but we call it that anyway because we reckon she's tops.

Settle down with that "Mate" stuff. You don't have your citizenship yet.

You're approved to say "mate" on the day you get your certificate.

Nothing is more sacrosanct than the "Mate"

I believe K is allowed to say Mate at this stage of the process, provided it's in the confines of her own home. Once the certificate is issued, she can graduate to Mate in public and possibly even M-a-a-te but only if at the footy.

Ahhh, right, thanks for clearing that up. You've been a citizen an awful long time Daff so I'll bow to your experience.

(Um, what if I come from Yorkshire and have always said mate as an alternative to pal, pet, love...? Are there special rules for me? Is it down to tone?)

Just keep mate at home until you get the southern cross tattooed on your ankle.

Now, "G'day", that's whole new story.
