Sports Injury practices

Has anyone had any experience with any medical practices that specialise in sports injuries here in Singapore ? I've once again done my knee and I'm looking for a place that might actually know what they are talking about.
I guess asking for one that honours appointments and doesn't allow walk ins resulting in an hour long wait is a biut too much to ask for in this country....

there was a good doctor specialised in sports injuries in the hospital near where we lived on Nassim Hill. Fyn went there for her knee problems. Gleneagles? can't remember his name, though, so this could be useless information.

yeah, Gleneagles is the hospital there.
Will keep sniffing around and hopefully find the Doctor who will give me the diagnosis I know is coming: "Old Age"

Knees are notoriously difficult. Full recovery of function is almost impossible. Try not to hold it against the doctors. On the other hand, you will have more chance of near full recovery with a better doctor. If you were looking for the best here I'd say call up the local professional sports team and ask them. Not sure what you'd do in Singapore.

Changi General Hospital sports injury specialist clinic. Doctors who specialise in wobbly knees with physios who know what they're doing and an on site fully equipped gym. My knees are also my weak point and my left one started to creak more than usual last year. A scan, diagnosis, treatment and regular physio fixed it. Highly recommended. Drop in on your way to or from your appointment. I live nearby. To get an appointment you just need to ring the CGH appointments hotline 6850 3333.

both mine are pretty much buggered
had cortisone injections in the left one in order that I could finish the University hockey season many years ago
then some drunken idiot fell on my right leg in Hamburg and ruptured my patella tendon. had 13 weeks in plaster and 4 years out from sport

I would highly recommend
Chook Sports & Lifestyle Medicine Centre
1 Grange Road
#04-02 ORCHARD BUILDING
Singapore 239693
Contact : 67363998
They were a client of mine in the distant past and I've recommended quite a few people to go there, all of whom were well satisfied. Dr. Chook is ex-National Sports Council and is pretty firm on strict appointment times.
Dr. Benedict Tan at Changi General Hospital is also very good and was a serious athlete himself.

BTW, the one acquaintance of mine who didn't like Dr. Chook was the kind of guy who, although he was given an appointment time, arrived an hour early and then complained about having to wait an hour to be seen.

Are these guys fearfully expensive? I have done something to a muscle or tendon in my left arm and can't lift anything with it any more. This has been going on for a couple of months now. The GP said, nothing to do but rest it, but it's not getting any better.
However, I'm a bit afraid I could spend squillions at a sports doctor's to be told exactly the same thing.

sounds a bit like my current injury. pain from just below the shoulder down the bicep to the elbow. cant really lift anything above my head.
my Dr just said it was a frozen shoulder and prescribed anti-inflamitories. it is easing up a bit and I've been able to continue playing hockey despite the injury.

Mine starts to the left of my inner forearm, just below and to the left of the bendy bit. I think that's where the damage is, but it sometimes goes up and into my bicep. I can still do gentle bicep curls but can't lift anything above shoulder height either and I can "twang" it really easily if I try to carry anything like supermarket shopping bags. I think I may have twisted it while lugging my computer around - I can't remember any ouch! moment though.
It's a pain in the arm...

You need Dr Raj.
http://www.sportsmedicine.com.sg/ From his blurb:
We offer Team Physician cover for sports events including international fixtures such as the Singapore Rugby Sevens, the Football Sevens, Singapore S-League football and the International Cricket Sixes competition. We offer pre-season screening and medical check-ups for sports teams.
He operated on my wrist (twice) and he always had a surgery full of ageing ang moh sports players on a Monday morning.

i have a friend who is a physio over there, she used to room with me, she's Australian trained, she might have the names of some good doctors if you want me to ask her?

You cut cut the offending leg off at the hip. Then you won't have a knee problem any more.

Where did Australians derive the term chook from anyway?
