Paz Sin Fronteras ' Peace Without Borders
Those of you on that side of the planet may not know what transpired on the Columbian/Ecuadorian border last week. The Columbian army finally went went after a FARC rebel base just over the border in Equador. The Columbians claim that the rebels were lobbing missles across (may or may not have been the case). However, everyone everywhere pretty much agrees FARC is a bunch of narco-terroristas not true guerillas, a bunch you wouldnt want to run into ever. They have been holding a female Columbian presidential candidate in chains for over 6 years now among other things. Anyhow the Columbians killed some pretty high level guerillas & found a laptop that proved that they were receiving massive funding from our great buddy Pres Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. Given this find you could postulate that the Columbians might even have been a given a heads up on the laptop from US advisors & that probably has a good chance of being true. Seems to me that they went in after the laptop & killed a few bad guys in the process. Chavez tried to deflect the news about his financial aide by trying to whip up Pan South American sentiment against the Columbians for 'attacking' a neighbor. The US said they'd back the Columbians, Chavez threatened to turn off his oil spigot for the millionth time & for a day or two it looked like a serious war might be imminent.
Anyhow things all simmered dowm & this weekend Columbian musician Juanes organized & headlned a free latino style rock festival where close half to a million people boogied below the bridge between Venezuela & Columbia from where the musicians performed. The local populace made their opinion known & it was NO WAR. Politicians & guerillas be damned
Here's some footage from this historic event. There is plenty more on the net too if you look around. The actual singing starts about halfway into this clip.
Looks Like a Very Good Party -Wish I had been there
