joy: gives a whole new meaning to torching a house ;) one does wonder why the brits refuse to come into the 21st century and remember that torches are something you carried way back when before you had batteriesm, they are flashlights. [smilie=whistle.gif]

And why would you Americans + hangers on, call something that doesn't flash, a flashlight?

because it does flash if you flick it on and off [smilie=whistle.gif] ,, as for torch, if you lot had your way the olympic runner would be holding a maglite [smilie=eclatderire.gif] at least flashlight only refers to one object [smilie=whistle.gif]

Ooh.. I wondered why other cars keep flashing their headlights at me at night. Of course.. they are flashheadlights

What do you call one of those LED light things that you attach to your head to you can see in the dark when trekking etc? A flashheadlight? Isn't that the same as on a car? All rather confusing

On a car are headlights, so you can see ahead of you, the one on your head is a headlamp, duh... the reason we don't call flashlights, hand lamps is because then we'd sound singaporean ;) (that is me being totally facetious).

Finally, the reason people are flashing their headlights at you at night is cause you are a terrible driver [smilie=smiley-faces-76.gif]

In Godzone we flash the headlights to warn oncoming cars that there is a cop hiding down the road...always get a buzz and feel so naughty when I do it :)

Poss: same in Canada, well least in my province, and totally illegal (if you get caught you get fined) then I went to UK and many do it to let you know you are annoying them, driving too slow for them, in their way, coming at them without your lights on, A**holes [smilie=rolleyes.gif]

So. You are driving too slowly, in people's way and you haven't got your lights on when you should have, and they're the a*holes?

Hmmm - is this Canaduckian or female logic?

a) this is why they put 'horns' on cars, say it with me, 'horns',,, (generally used as a system to alert, annoy, show your displeasure with other motorists) and b) if I don't have my headlights on how does blinding me with yours help me? OK, I wasn't seeing the road well and now I am light blind? (f***wits) have you considered flashing your lights, (as in off and on quickly?) or is that too much brain drain whilst looking for the highbeams? or are you afraid your friend in the passenger seat will end up like the guy in the twilight zone movie [smilie=tease.gif]

you generally don't hear claxons of other cars that are some distance away... especially now that everyone has those wonderful 250Watt car stereos.

i like using my highbeams plus extra Hella pencil beams on those that seem oblivious to other road users. it so helps them focus. [smilie=w00t.gif] sometime i wish it was possible to get a high-powered laser built in my car.
