We hardly ever use the 2nd space, so it may seem petty but fact is it is ours, we paid for it (and will be doing so for a bloody long time!) and there are times we do want to use it. We will have engineers here next week and you can bet there won't be any visitor spaces free because residents use them.
You could move to small-town Germany at any point in time ;)

There is something in that. I'd pick up a few orange cones from Bunnings and putting in the area. Even seems to work on my nightmare street.

No car there when Neo came home last evening or when we came home from dinner. We can park further back, effectively using both spaces, but that doesn't stop him parking up when Neo's at work which is obviously what he does.

I wonder if we can install one of those collapsible post thingies? :)

Try getting that past the Strata management!

But yes, or putting a chain across one or both parking spaces.

Just came up in the lift with my next door neighbour, who had assumed it was us or our friend with the silver car that has apparently also been parking in his space - it has been inconveniencing him (he has a friend with a ute stay over a lot :D ) but he didn't want to say anything to us! And he's on the bloody committee!

I haven't seen the car for a while, although I rarely go down to the car park, but I know it hasn't been in our space since my snotogram under the wiper. Result.

I'd pay to get it towed to annoy the f*&^ out of the owner. To where? A nearby double yellow line or perhaps a slipway which floods at high tide would seem ideal.

Email received this evening:

Dear <Neo and Kooky>

I write to you today as an owner (not as a committee member) to ask if you would consider renting your spare car space for a period of 2 months.

I have a new tenant and we need three garaged car spaces until mid-June 2012. Thereafter we will return to the two car spaces.

Should you wish to rent the carspace, I am happy to take your suggestion on the rate.

I noticed in other communications that you often use the spare space for tradespeople during improvement works to your unit. As the tenants in my lot are all professionals working 9am - 5pm jobs, I'm happy to offer my space (close to the elevators) for your tradespeople during the rental period.

Have a think about it and let me know if you're keen to earn a little more cash.

Regards,

<Chairman of the Executive Committee>

=============================

Dear <Chairman of the Executive Committee>

I think you'll find there's a by-law against subletting car spaces.

Much Love

<Kooky>

=============================

I promise you, we have just received this email. The nerve of the man; I wouldn't be surprised if the dodgy car is his tenant's.

I haven't yet sent a reply, I'm debating whether to send the above or simply "get fucked". What do you think? ;)

Send it to the Executive Committee.

Seriously.

Especially if the Chairman isn't an owner of a unit.

$1000/month for 2 months sounds perfect to me.

I want nothing to do with the grubby little man.

8 minutes before he sent that email he sent us another lengthy one regarding the leaks, condescending as ever - shame he couldn't spell to save his life and he really doesn't seem to understand most of what we say.

He must be really desperate because, as I think I've said above, the "spare" end of the space has a huge pillar which means you can't drive in and out of it from that end unless our neighbour's space is also free. For this reason alone I would not sublet the space (even to somebody I liked), as it's likely to cause us hassle.

As far as I know he lives here, so I am interpreting that as him having 2 flatmates and possibly advertising his spare rooms as coming with parking spaces.

Sending it to he Exec will put him in an awkward position, but that might start a personal vendetta that in his position might cause you more grief.

Bring it to the AGM and table it before te SPs vote. Sneky, underhanded, and might not have an effect, but very embarrassing for him.

Send you reply to him. He should be embarrassed but if he's smart he'll know he could look bad if you release that info, so maybe a line stating its between the two of you.

Or ignore him, send a request to the EC to investigate the growing trend of residents subletting their car parks which is against your strata regulations. Don't single him out though, just yet. The EC may know of the practice but like many committees allow it to happen until there is a complaint which forces them to address the issue.

Or just take he cash.

He is and sounds like a complete nob. Personally I would have as little as possible to do with him in a private capacity, and as per your bylaw I would be recieving cash. I also wouldn't trust that he wouldn't be above a set up. I would however be conscious that there is an opportunity to cultivate a relationship.

If you're worried about breaking bylaws, couldn't you have some kind of arrangement like a few bottles of something per week?

I'm not worried about breaking them - I'm just very bemused that the power-mad, bylaw-quoting CHAIRMAN (and until recently also Treasurer) of the Executive Committee tasked with enforcing rules would suggest such a thing :lol:

It was never an option; he's not coming anywhere near my parking space.

Kooky, i was just on the receiving end of an Australian complaining to me about his landlord (not me, he was just ranting and i was there). He ended with the magnificent statement: "If you people want Singapore to be considered a first world country like ours, you need to buck up on your laws regarding property!"

... i immediately thought of you ...
