Banks and financial companies ringing me
Just had a couple of banks and several well known financial institutions ring me offering me credit cards etc. WTF did they get my number? When I aske them they say that it is off some list they bought. Who would sell it? I bank with DBS and HSBC - would they have sold my details? I dont put my mobile down unless I absoluely have to or am waiting for a delivery - so it wont be the Courts, IKEA crowd.
What TF is going on? Am very pissed orf.

"I really love you" she said. "Is that the champagne talking" he asked. "No" she laughed. "That's me talking to the champagne"

You've consented as well. Most forms out here state that by filling the information in you agree to the company or it's "Marketing Partners" contacting you.
I find asking them to remove your name from the list sometimes work. Blasting the poor cold caller gets you nowhere expect for some instant personal gratification. failing that, letters to the Straits Times will always get a response.

Had a lot more 'financial advisors' calling recently as well. Maybe they foolishly think I am about to get some money
Not sure where they are getting the number, but they don't have my direct line, and thankfully reception are well trained at putting them off

So UOB and Standard Chartered are marketing partners of DBS and HSBC?

You don't know it's your banks selling it. Could be anyone from Singtel, Starhub, clubs, societies etc etc.

Re: Banks and financial companies ringing me
Yes.. best advice would be not to tell Singtel /M1/Starhub your number

Just be thankful that it's not Ann Kinsey calling you...

Once your number is out there, it's pretty much impossible to stop it being passed around.

I once had Amex calling me trying to sell me vagina insurance!
I said "What, against theft?" and there was a deathly silence at the other end of the phone.

If they offered 3rd party, fire and theft I'd start to worry - and I'm a bloke....

Four words that instantly end a call from a financial advisor, "I am a bankrupt". This is usually followed by a baffled silence followed shortly by a click.
Prayer has no place in public schools. Just like facts have no place in organised religion.

Re: Banks and financial companies ringing me
Bank called me, standard charter, think they know I have NO money?
anyway was I rude? she did her quick hi I'm yada yada from Stanard charter schpeal, is it convenient for you to talk now? I said umm no, she then asked if it would be better if she called back after office hours. I said umm I would rather you didn't call me back at all....
to which she replied, ahh okay uh.. and hung up.
Now I feel bad, I know they just have a job to do, but being the expat whif, from what I hear no one really will give me anything lest they get himself's John Hancock as well. so we'll see if they call back or not

Re: Banks and financial companies ringing me
That reminds me, Canuck, years ago I remember getting a call from someone telling me I've been pre-approved for some un-godly limit on a credit card. I said, "Hmmm, that's interesting because I don't have a job." Guy said, "But, you've been pre-approved, blah, blah, blah" so I said something like "Well, then you guys aren't too smart - I just told you I don't have a job, how do you think you're going to get paid if I take the card and use it?" I couldn't believe the guy actually wanted to argue with me about it Yeah, I guess they are just doing a job, but, really, in my experience some of them are beyond stupid - rather amazing they got the job in the first place!
