3 day getaway from Sing

Post by Lichtgestalt » 27th Feb, '12, 00:06

Will be there in March and we are looking for
a few days beach or at easy going time. Done
Bintan ... anything else to recommend except
the standard trip to Phuket or Bali?

I was going to say Phuket.....or Bali.

Koh Samui is an option, but must say, I didn't enjoy it there as everyone seemed to be trying to rip you off. Much prefer going to Phuket. There's always Krabi if you still want Thailand.

Bali....yeah, of Lombok but not outside of that, then not much else.

Enjoy!

Hmmm....I never think of Peninsula Malaysia as anything worth going to, but of course there are resorts in Johor, some by the sea so may have beaches. Sibu island is on that springs to mind. East Malaysia is a bit further in flying but could also be done. Would I do it? No, not really. Bali or Phuket would be my call.

Are you going with kids or not?

For a weekend away with Kids Desaru is cheap and cheerful, but if you are a couple it plainly average.

If you like snorkling then Kota Tingi or Kota Kinabalu is worth a gander as well as Sibu, there are buses from Orchard into MY that take you to the shore for Sibu (google sea gypsy on the web) and it's pretty good for the money.

Have a nice trip wherever you go!

Vietnam. Danang/Hoi An or Phu Quoc.

Cambodia (although the travel times might be off for just 3 days) - Kep or Song Saa

Malaysia - Pulao Redang.

Thanks, some new names I haven't heard of so far. When does the monsoon season in Phuket, etc. start? And has the one in Malaysia already stopped? Diving season hasn't started from Sing so I suspect the weather in MY is soso

Monsoon in Phuket starts in March, and Malaysian diving season starts mid-March. March is a transitional month so there's a 50-50 chance of good weather.

Rawa is doable even during the monsoon, it's only 30 mins from Mersing and they use their own speedboats.

Three days is rather short so there are not many choices I'm afraid.

Krabi is nice but Tiger Airways is NOT. And it's the only airline that flies direct to Krabi from here.

Back after a bit of a hiatus.

I've heard a fair bit of negative press about Tiger, but used them 3 times last year to Phuket and would have to say, there were no problems and the cost was lower than the alternatives.

I didn't realize the monsoon season started in March, I thought it was more like May-end.

You can get to Krabi via Bangkok on SQ & Bangkok Airways (I think it's Bangkok Airways) - we did it last year, not so bad to have to connect.

I always enjoyed Tioman, it's just my cup of tea in the little cabins, but it's not that glamourous and the ferry is 4hr which eats up a bit of the long weekend. There's always that private island trying to recall name of, if you have a few kkk spare ;)
