Home Insurance
For those people that have home insurance , how much contents cover do you have ?
Just looking at mine and I currently have 100,000 ( 35 of sum insured) .....it seems a bit low to me .
Can anybody else share what they have ?

Re: Home Insurance
SGD100k? What does it cover? If it's just contents (and not fixtures and fittings) then that seems a little high to me!
But it does depend on what is yours and what is your landlord's (or do you own the place?) Just a quick mental note of my lounge/dining room and come to less than 25k, so think probably $50k would cover me in a 2-bed 1200sq ft apartment.

We're a fair bit more but with 2 kids and a wife, just the clothing / shoes / handbags alone would come close to that

I was shocked when I did our inventory for the move how much it all came too. A surprising amount was DVDs, CDs and books.

Let me know if you want the name of a good insurance broker. Most unpushy broker I have ever met.expat yorkshire wrote:Yes Kooky one reason for changing my provider is down to the loss suffered when I had my camera stolen last week in Vietnam.

Re: Home Insurance
You're right, UK insurance does cover temporarily removed contents worldwide. And yes, I understand the lack of travel insurance coverage - $1000 per laptop and $500 per other item. You may have to get specific insurance for high value items?

Re: Home Insurance
Just checked - AUD120,000. We have bundling cover, but I imagine if we lost a single high value item we'd lose out.

Asked about 4 big travel insurance companies about paying extra to cover high value items but none would do this.Fat Bob wrote: And yes, I understand the lack of travel insurance coverage - $1000 per laptop and $500 per other item. You may have to get specific insurance for high value items?
AXA do it as an add to home insurance 10K for $120 no individual item limit

Re: Home Insurance
Was that for travel insurance Kooky ?
Re: Home Insurance
I have one for contents here at 250K. Covers all items worldwide and also covers cotents at a permentant overseas address (holiday home) up to 10% of value of total cover ie $25k. No need to list high value items unless over a certain amount - think its 10K but would need to check. Also includes liability insurrance and an addional cover for renovations done on our place here. I have teenagers away at uni and it also includes their things like laptops etc It suits me as everything is in one place. Price was about $1100 per year
Hope that helps

Re: Home Insurance
Not that I have kids, but do know from parents with us including accident prone firestarting lose everything brother at the time plus now with younger sister not far out of teens, the child effect & outside home extras adds STACKS to home and contents insurance.
