Books: What have you reading ?

I don't read much fiction anymore, but having read most of the Arthurian novels and not read Jack Whyte to the best of my knowledge, sounds like a good read for the next 9 months.

I liked it too. I thought it was clever. Agree that it took a few chapters to get into the zone of it. JF has a very good sense of humour where people are concerned and their foibles. He has an element of the Terry Pratchet skill in social commentary, with the fantasy element as well as the backdrop, but clearly very different writers at the same time. I've finished my last round of books, so it's a good reminder to look this weekend for the sequel. I liked it as a change to the Next series. I was up to I think the fourth book and accidently left it on a plane, but to be honest I got to the point where I wasn't enjoying them anymore - however I do wish to know if she ever recovered her husband... I just read another of his, The Fourth Bear. Easy read, it is an offshoot of the Nursery Crimes Division, not as good as those other two series, but it was a handy second hand bookshop pickup, then to be taken back.

Agree completely. I really enjoyed the Thursday Next books. They were fun and clever, especially the first, with Jane Eyre, but none of his others have really grabbed me.

I really enjoyed the Next books initially then they all got a bit too samey for me. Nursery Crimes weren't bad.
Shades of Grey - I thought it was excellent.

Although, without ruining it for anyone else, I wasn't prepared for the twist! Am looking forward to seeing how the story is translated to the big screen...

That's my kind of genre, so feel free to recommend any similarly good reads!

As I'm going to go out and find that book, I'm not going to read anymore posts on it, cause you're alluding to a few spoilers. And as I have no idea who Em is not in position to comment on Anne Hathaway - other than to suggest you watch Rachel Getting Married when she plays the drug f'cked sister out of rehab for the weekend - not a film to everyones tastes for sure (!) but it opened my eyes up to AH acting chops.

So, I'm currently reading a contract between 'The Dominant' and 'The Submissive' in 50 Shades of Grey... Not entirely disappointing so far...no better or worse than the usual chick lit I read...

Sucker for punishment that I am, re-reading The Wheel of Time. A guy at work convinced me the new author finishing it off does a decent job of it, and brought it back on track.

Just finished Lost at Sea by Jon Ronson which is a collection of his articles which were mainly published in the guardian .

I really enjoyed it

I was out of good fiction, read everything else up and was really really really bored one weekend. Had it on the shelf and thought what the hell. Quite enjoyed for a while but I've got to a sixth through Volume 6 and I've put down again. Just as Matt is about to take over the army heading to Illian to take on Sammuel. I thought if I read one more description of a chicken scratching in a yard and the mode of dress with slits of colour in the frock, and how the village is 20x the size of Two Rives but now barely takes their notice....etc....etc.....etc.....for 4-5+pages before getting to the point....the book was binned. I remember now why I stopped. The deviation is mind numbing. Like I said, guy at work was enjoying the last few of the final reboot.
